anyone having problems with the remote not detected
I've been having problems with my remote lately and today the dealer changed the batteries, but I think for some reason I still can't unlocked the car without the key and also I get this error message ..

Why is the dealer involved in changing the battery in a BMW remote? Is a special tool required to access the the battery compartment? I am awaiting delivery of my 2014 550i with Comfort Access, and I am really curious about being tethered to the dealership for trivial maintenance?

Have you tried touching the end of the fob to the lower right corner of the steering column to re-synch the fob to the car? There is a shape marked on the steering column where the fob should be held while starting the car. This is how new fobs are synched. Can't hurt to try!
Good luck!

First off, they should change the batteries first in their diagnosis, which appears to be unsuccessful so far. The door on the remote pops off very easily and the batteries are simply watch style (CR2450 in 2012). Your manual indicates the install instructions which does NOT require a special tool. Unless things have changed the batteries are covered under warranty anyway so let the dealer do it. I suggest you change both remote batteries when the time comes.

To the OP, Are your windows tinited? If so is it a metallic content tint? If you have your phone in your pocket and your keys are in the same pocket, your phone will cause interference with your remote. Especially if you have an iphone. These are two issues i've found with the comfort access remotes. Solution, get ceramic tint and put your key in the pocket opposite your phone.

Hello, I am having the same problems, my comfort access fails sporadically and worked perfect before.
And I changed the batteries. In the bmw have told me that the antenna can be. |

I have had that message twice in the last two years at random and never again. It seems there was something making the car think the key was removed. No problems since...

I asked, and BMW said that changing the batteries were part of the service, and would be done at every service interval.
Guess that means bringing both keys when having the car serviced. I have also gotten that message, but I keep my key in my pocket all the time, so if I start the car and exit the car i.e to lock my front door or get the mail, I get the same message, however the car is still running. |

Are you near any big radio towers when it fails? My dealer told me he received many distress calls about the comfort access not working in a particular part of town and they figured it had something to do with nearby interference.

In my case it happens with either remote, everywhere, anytime a door is opened while the car is running.

I had the same issue and the dealership actually had to recode a new key. I had them replace the battery and the car still didn't recognize the remote/key fob.
If your car is still under warranty this service is free! The dealership will make a copy of your license and registration for proof of ownership, and recode a brand new key from the VIN. The process takes about a day.
