Air leak from door handle?!?

I am a month away from placing my order for ED 550.

Today I have an X5 that my wife will take when I get the 550.

I had the X in for service today and got a 2013 528 loaner.

With the sunroof in vent position, there is a major stream of air coming from the door handle.

Is this a known issue? Has it been resolved on the 2014 model?

I have noticed that with mine, I only feel it slightly when at highway speeds. But its never bothered me, never had any issues from it.

I've seen this on other cars. I believe it was tracked to a faulty window seal, allowing air into the door cavity which would escape from the interior door handle. Adjusting the glass out slightly or replacing the seal might resolve the problem.

Why would you want to vent your sunroof in the arctic cold we've been having?

I like having the heat on and the room vented to keep a nice flow of fresh air. And since it's vented at the top and behind me, it's not blowing in. It sucks out the warm air. Basically, just like air FLOW. I run hot.

Gotcha I'm the opposite, so I was curious. I don't want anything but warm air in this weather, I'd melt my passengers these days. I hope you get it sorted out.

I am pretty surprised that this is still going on. I reported this anomoly to the forum and to BMW back three years ago on my 2011 535. I never did anything with it because I really didnt want to have the door panel yanked off for them to investigate. Same identical issue that you report however, sunrrof in vent position and air comes in throught the door handle. I can only guess that this is an issue on the assembly line where a gasket may be misplaced around the handle. This is concerning since I am alos getting a new 5 in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, I agree...not a fan of the dealer taking apart the car. I was an ASE tech and have been around cars and mechanics, etc... Side I was 10. Bottom line... Once you start "cracking the deal" it's very likely to never be the same and you'll start to create new "gremlins".

Still does it... I never took the time to bring it to the dealer and have them investigate the cause as I don't drive it that much in the winter.

I have the issue, I brought it to the dealer who claimed to have never heard of the problem. I thought the problem went away but now I realize it's just the cold winter and my roof being closed (I always have the vent opened).

After I left the dealer I thought they didn't do anything and then it got really cold and I thought oh it stopped! Haha

At least im glad to hear I'm not crazy!
