BMW keys cloning problem
Auto Express magazine this week published a disturbing article on thieves tapping into car's many of them BMW's, one area of central London reported 9 BMW's stolen in one month.
Hacking into the cars computers is quick and easy thanks to the handheld key-coding device freely available on line, the article also published some comments from owners of stollen BMW's, and how the system used can also be found on YouTube, i.e. how to clonn keys and all. Looks like it is mainly down to 1 and 3 series, is this due to different systems between different series or simply that the suckers are mainly after 1 and 3 series. The question, is BMW going to come up with a solution, at least a system that make it harder for key entry cloning, reading Auto Express article and experiences of the folks effected make it sound it is an easy quick job, what is not helpful is the cloning device availability to allow independant garages to complete with franchised one's. Any of you folks know about this and what action can be taken to avoid our cars vanishing? one comment from a BMW owner in the article was to disarmed the BMW immobiliser and change it with a new system. |
