Or as large as you want if you plug one into the USB socket in the centre armrest. Mine is 60GB

Related to above, I'm awaiting the delivery of my new F10 in a week or so, and planning what I'm going to do over and above what I can do in my present E60 for music storage

I presume that you can also use an iPod in the USB socket, and fully control it as per the way you can in an E60 (but with better graphics etc)... Is this correct?

I've ordered an iPhone 4 media cradle + iPhone connectivity options, which will obviously control the iPhone, but I'm thinking that my iPod has so much more music storage than the phone if it can still be used as well. I wouldn't really have to load anything on the internal drive (although I could, of course).

Any comments on how to best use the hard drive together with iPods and iPhones (especially all together) will be much appreciated thanks.

IIRC my hard drive was 12 GB.One of the things I miss in my "d" was the ease with which one could load MP3s onto the hard drive (I had long ago made MP3s of my 2100 favorite songs from my CDs).To load songs onto my Mercedes' hard drive one must load each CD into the changer and have the radio convert the songs and transfer them onto the hard drive.Yikes!

Not reccomended for many external HDD as they need more than 500mA
Its designed for Flash Drives

However, the power consumption of the mass storage device must not exceed the
maximum level of 500 mA permitted

How important is the HD option to you all? I ask because I only listen to music on my iPhone and I never go anywhere without it. I just can't see why it is so important to have such huge amount of space in the car's HD system.

I have a 320gb hard drive in the arm rest, plugged into USB socket... Older cars suffered as they only had USB 1.0 but you're fine in newer models as they are USB 2.0.

The F10 hard drive (and it's solid state, not a disk) has 12.5 Gigabytes of usable space.
