OP, you should contact BMWNA and let them get involved with your issues.
I contacted them right when I got the Drivetrain Malfunction light and advised them I just fell out of warranty and was not happy with the situation. They advised me to bring it to a BMW dealer to get diagnosed and they will work with me in regards to a possible resolution. My car died on the freeway on Tuesday. The car was towed to the dealer who looked at the car and found out the bolts holding the vanos broke and that cause the vanos to break. The master tech contacted BMWNA directly and my car is being repaired at no cost to me. To me it sounds like BMW Nashville is giving you the run around. I would contact BMWNA and ask them to pay for your car payments while it's in the shop as well. |

What a great post, I wish you the best of luck, but this story scares the hell out of me with my decision on buying a used 2011 f10...ughhhh If I buy certified pre owned will these problems have already happened and be fixed?

That is the issue if the dealership just keeps denying that there are issues and doesn't help you it really doesn't matter if it is certified and under warranty...my car is under warranty and so far they are too busy denying things instead of helping their customer...so i would say buyer beware.....

I had this same problem on my 2011 535. They replaced the injectors (under warranty) and the problem went away. Then last week it popped up again after idling my car for a little longer then it should have been. After shutting her off for a little the problem disappeared. I guess ill just keep driving around with my fingers crossed that it doesn't come up again.

Spoke to BMW North America and BMW dealership. They are willing to give me 36500 for my car and 7500 BMW cash. This I could put towards any BMW at invoice. The issue is to get a comparable BMW 535i (not 550i like what i have) I would have to spend 18500 not including taxes. I'm just conflicted..I'm stuck with a car I spent $80,000 that I want to get out of because these problems never go away with this car...but I don't want to dump another $18500 into another car...i have just lost faith....Any comments or advice would be appreciated???

What year is your current 550? The question is really whether the money out of pocket is reasonable given how long you have has the car and to a lesser extent how many miles you have driven. One way to assess this is think about this as a lease and figure out how much you would have paid.
Agree that this is painful but chances are that you would get a new car with hopefully fewer or no problems and a new warranty. |

How many miles? You should expect to be financially responsible for use, wear and tear depreciation - correct? IMO nothing should really be free...

I agree... it has 31000 miles.....But if BMW can't make a car that doesn't have huge issues by 31,000 miles then is it truly NOT the ultimate driving machine.....Looks to me like BMW has huge issues with their vehicles and they are too busy denying these issues than making their customers that can afford their cars happy...well if that's the case...people such as myself that can pay cash for cars will just move on to other brands such as Porsche, Audi and Mercedes benz.....

$18000 out of pocket for a new car after three years of ownership and 31,000 miles doesn't seem crazy. Even if you make it a new 550 with a higher out of pocket cost, the numbers seem reasonable. You couldn't sell the car (if it was working) and net this much.
At the same time this is a terrible situation and should not happen. You are justified in being disillusioned and distrustful. All manufacturers make lemons. You can find people with issues such as this in all forums. Doesn't make it right for sure but I don't think BMW is any better or worse. Hope you get this resolved. Sounds like the best financial out is through BMW - hopefully your next car - whatever it is - is worry free. |

Got another drive train malfunction again but this time the car began shuddering and hesitating and I had to call BMW assist and be towed into the Dealership...So car is at the dealership now. Service manager at least got me into a loaner car for now...which i did greatly appreciate....

Damn man, yea its the Injectors bullshit, They fixed mine and it came back after driving 1,000 miles, later on youtube I found this. It might be the techs not doing the job properly.
Mine has been to the service twice already in 2 months of ownership !

BTW, some 2011 models have better reliability. I notice anything made after March 2011 seems to have less problems. |

I found that the passenger seat side bolster was rubbing against the center console. just inflated the side bolsters a little and that provided enough clearance for the sound to disappear. As for the drive train issue. I am picking up my car on Friday after having the x-drive distribution box and diesel injectors replaced after having some vibrations when making speed adjustments at low revs. My thread is here. http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1018745 |

New member here! Don't mean to tread jack but I purchased a 2011 550i CPO with 32,1**k miles back in July 2014. Awesome car when it works. Car currently has 36,200k miles. I've had three drivetrain malfunctions in 4k miles! Once had all 8 injectors replaced, 4 were bad but all were replaced out of courtesy. TWICE!!!! they replaced the aux turbo water pump and sensors related! Now I have major white smoke blowing out my tailpipe when climbing up a grade past 2000rpm's when I made my trip out to Las Vegas and back(it was 85 plus degrees and 270 miles each way so condensation was out of the question) and now I'm burning 2 qts of oil in less than 1k miles with black grainy soot on my rear end of the vehicle. I was told burning 720 mile per qt is what bmw consider normal for the 550i but 2qts in 900 miles? Its curently the dealer being worked on for excessive oil burning and white smoke! Ultimately I want to keep the vehicle but it gets frustrating as I don't know what should I do if problems keep happening? I have not contacted bmwna or lawyers yet but I've read many good results from bmw buybacks! California I believe is the only state that CPO vehicles can be lemon law!

I too had the drivetrain malfunction warning light come on while driving to work. After work, when I re-started the car it was gone. But I ended up taking the car to the dealer the next day. I have a Remus quad axle back exhaust. Since they found the exhaust flap missing from the stock muffler and a vacuum hose loose, they refused to perform further diagnostics until the stock exhaust is installed. They even refused to plug the vacuum hose. They said the warning light "COULD'VE BEEN" from the exhaust flap and the vaccum hose. I took my car back to the shop who installed the remus exhaust and have them plug the hose. What a bunch of BS from the dealer. I've had the remus exhaust for over 1 1/2 yrs and no issue. So far I haven't had the warning light come on, but if it does, any advice on what to do???

They contacted me today and told me the drive train malfunction was due to a vanos solenoid that had gone bad. I have no clue what that even is? They took care of it and we will see what comes up next time.....
