Surround view option on G30 5-series?
Anyone know where to find the Surround View/360 'birds eye/drone' view option on the BMW UK 5-series configurator?
I can't see it anywhere - only the rear view camera. |

You can only have it as part of 'Remote Control Parking' which in turn would compulsorily add 'Parking assistant Plus', 'comfort access' and 'reverse assist camera'. This options in total cost £1790.00.

The more I read about the G30, the more convinced I am that I would be happiest with a basic spec 520d SE with maybe VDC and a rear camera. That would be a very relaxing and satisfying car to tour the UK in. The rest increasingly seems like pointless frippery.

When I bought my first car (less than 35 years ago), things like air-conditioning were ridiculous toys for hyper-cars and "just something else to go wrong". Since then, airbags, ABS, ESP, crumple-zones, tyre-pressure monitoring have not just been available options, they are compulsory. Give it another 30 years and you may well not be allowed to park your car manually as it will be considered too dangerous. |

The F10 I currently have is a big (long) car... combined with the poor feedback from the electric steering assistance, it is difficult to position in low speed and parking-type manoeuvres. Hence, I was thinking about this option (I like the idea of the cameras in the front bumper when pulling out of awkward junctions also).
Looks like I'll have to stick to using my own eyes then! the e60 was about right and I still miss my e39... |

The "go" in my current 535d keeps getting me into trouble. I get frustrated at the lack of opportunity to use it and am tempted to do so when it's not really safe or considerate. I can't really remember the last time the extra oomph made any appreciable difference to how long my journey took.

At the risk of sounding like some kind of hooner (I'm not) I don't care about journey times at all. For me it's all about the feeling as you squeeze the throttle (maybe only 30%) and power past slower traffic.

You can get the same in a 520d as long as you give it a much bigger squeeze lol

Remote Parking looks useful for fitting it into a garage - many garages are too small to get a car like a 5 Series in as you can't get out once you are inside. Does remote park solve this...?

I actually thought this would be a about the only practical use for the remote park option however, if something goes wrong how would you get the car out the garage

Replying to a fairly old post here I know, but it's not all that bad.
On my previous car, I had surround view. Total cost (accounting for mandatory additional elements) was:- 375 for reversing assist camera 530 for surround view 335 for folding / auto dimming mirrors Total: £1240 On the new car:- 1095 for 'Parking Assist Plus' 335 for folding / auto dimming mirrors Total £1430 So £190 more and you get loads of extra functionality. Parking Assistant for parallel and lateral parking spaces Active Park Distance Control Reversing Assist camera Remote 3D View Surround View Last edited by stevelup; 02-13-2017 at 07:25 AM..
