just picked up my 550

Just picked up a new to me 550i x drive a few days ago and love everything about it . Just had a few questions about modifying this thing .

First of all this car might be the most quiet twin turbo V8 in the world . It sounds extremely restricted from the intake to exhaust. I want to give it some grunt but cant seem to find an exhaust for under $2k , At the end of the day i just want it to be a little louder and not obnoxious for about $5-600.

is the Jb4 the only option besides dinan for tuning the n63? , There is so much potential and i feel the jb4 was released just "because" , there is nowhere near as many options as the 335 jb4 had .

Thanks guys.

Ther is an exhaust for it thats full length for about 2k and best in the market.
You will have to do a lil modification to get it to work on xi but lots of members did it on this forum, call the company and ask them and they can explain the process.

The BMS Stage 1 is a good super simple to install tune. Takes 5-10 minute and can be removed easy if you need to take your car in for any warranty work. Before you do too much modding though I would make sure the N63 CCP has been done to it. I just got mine back and it's pulling really hard. I'll put the tune back in over the weekend.

If you watch the classified ads you see some used BMS Stage 1's pop up for sale. I bought a used one from a guy for $220 shipped. There are 2 different harnesses, make sure you get the right one for your car.

Surprisingly not a whole lot of HP gains by opening up the exhaust, at least on a dyno. Stock they most defiantly are quiet, I'm going to keep mine that way for a while. I have old C5 Z06 with Borla exhaust I can drive when I want to make noise.

I thought about doing some things to mine, but after the CCP and now the VANOS already having issues I doubt I'll be keeping it past warranty expiration.
Sad too, such a great platform. May just upgrade to a 13/14 with the N63TU which hasn't had issues (yet).

Thanks Mike for the link. I have 63tu so it only says OPTIONAL USB cable. if its optional how do I make sure the JB4 is properly installed? I have no feeling how much the car needs to pull since I have only driven the car a few times.

Does that mean I need to get the USB cable to clear the codes?

You need the USB cable to delete the codes.

If you do not get any codes and car starts up normally then the Jb4 is installed correctly.
I would still strongly recommend the USB cable with any JB and Jb4.

Thanks.

If I don't get the cable is the default map 1? in reality I am only looking at the JB4 for some additional HP and that's it.

Regarding the codes, you recommend getting the cable and clear the codes every time the car goes to the dealer? if that's the case then I guess I'll by the cable for this reason.

thanks again for all your help as you can see I am very new at this and don't want to screw anything up specially voiding my warranty.

Also, os this an special cable only sold by BMS or can I get it from another sites (amazon) if I find out the connection names?
