I assume this is to do with the MFD and the tow bar, but has anyone else had a BMW safety recall recently.

Mine says:
Vehicle Safety Recall re: program control units, instrument cluster. System may fail to display a fault with the towing hitch which could result in damage.

Seems it's a 1.5hr fix, so time for me to use the free wi-fi and have a coffee or two. I wonder if I can get them to stick the latest maps on there too for my 'inconvenience'

Do you have a electrically deployable towbar? What exactly does the instrument cluster show with regards to the towbar?

Yes I do.
To be honest I can't recall. I know when you engage reverse it says that the sensors are disabled and to exercise caution.
I assume it displays some type of warning message if things aren't right, but after speaking to the dealership it appears that the software needs an update as there is a problem with the code that enables it to do that - way too techy for me :

So would I , but there are a few new 'ish' roads near me (by new I mean last 18 months) and the car doesn't seem to recognise them and thinks I'm in a field.
I will mention to them and see what they say.....although as Xenon says I doubt there will be much interest from them

The road I live in isn't on the latest 2014 maps, and it's been here five years ...

Well, just had a quick email exchange with my sales guy and he said if there's a map update, he'll get it applied......result

Although the caveat was they they tend to be 12-18 month updates, so he suspects I may have the latest version anyway, but still, good form on their part.

That's a great result - I'm amazed. He's probably thinking you have the latest map. You can always check the version yourself.

They tend to do two releases a year (not sure what he's on about at 18 months - in 2006 there were 5 just in that year) but even 2013-2 does not have the new dual-carriageway A46 between Leicester and Newark which has been there for years. It's a bit shit really.

Yes, I was surprised Xenon........I'll not count my chickens until it's been confirmed there is an update and it's been applied to my car though
