Sway bar install questions

I have a 2013 528i that I have purchased the upgraded sway bar kit from ECS Tuning ( M5 front and 650i rear). Will install these in a few days. Does anyone know what the torque specs are for the front and rear sway bar bushings ? and also for the end links ?

Thanks

End links I have seen quoted ~48 lb-fts several times. Bushing specs I haven't found so easy to find but I have observed ~100 ft-lbs to remove. Not sure why bushing bracket torque specs are hard to find for the F10 (had no trouble for previous bimmers) but maybe someone else will reply with the official value.

I'll use them both as they sound "in the Ballpark" to me. Thanks

Why get M5 sway bar When H&R offers TRUE upgrade? In any case, your front link bottom joint will point upward because M5 sway bar ends are at different angle. I discovered that problem long ago, but did not have any adverse affect in short term. You need to search a thread. If you have not bought M5 sway bar, I suggest H&R sways, it is cheaper and better.

I understand what you are saying about H and R. However, I am still under factory warranty and need to preserve a "stock" look in case I have other issues and they ( BMW stealer) puts it up on the rack.

There is zero concern the dealer is going to say or do anything over sway bars. Go with the H&R

Besides you are protected under the Wagnuson-Moss warranty act, same as every one else.

As long as you're in the USA. To my knowledge, I have no such protection. And, just because I would probably win in court, doesn't mean I would wish to endure an unnecessary hassle.

Sways shouldn't cause a problem, but the black BMW package does fly under the radar.

You're right, MMWA only applies in US, but still..they are sway bars.... have them powdercoated black.

Completed the mod a few days ago. My thanks to Surly73 for the torque numbers. Install went fairly easy. I torqued the front bushings at 100 ft lbs and the end links at 48 ft lbs. On the rear I did a "reverse ' torque removal and estimated the torque settings for the rear bushings at 75 ft lbs and the end links at 48 ft lbs.

Overall impression: This is a MUST DO mod. The difference in stability and handling is substantial . Most of the sloppy handling is gone and the car feels much more planted. No matter which bars you go with whether it is BMW, H and R or ? you should do this mod. It's a very big bang for the buck.

My next steps are probably to ditch the RFT's and run lighter wheels. I did this on my other car ( 2011 BMW 328i E93 convert with all options including sport suspension) and went from 18" wheels and RFTs to 19" wheels by Forgestar and Michelin pilot Sports ( non RFT) . The end result was much improved handling and ride plus I lost 11 lbs per corner !!!

Thanks all

For those of you that did the rear sway bar, how do you get the bar out? It’s all blocked everywhere.. I have it half up race ramps. Thx
