General question about new car
My first brand new car for 12 yrs, do I need to run in my 520d se sports auto like the old days. Any guidance or advice?

You don't really have to "break in" the car technically speaking with all the advancements in technology, however.... I personally like going easy on the car for the first 1000 miles. Going easy means smooth acceleration to highway speeds, trying not to exceed 3500RPM and avoid hard braking.

However, you should vary the RPM range as much as possible, whilst keeping below the recommended maximums for the first 1200 miles. Thereafter, gradually begin to open it up and enjoy the car. In the early stages do not sit on the motorway at a steady RPM for mile after mile; keep the revs varied or you'll end up with an oil burning engine. |
