No iPhone Text Chime / Tone when Charging in Car!?
For those who have Apple iPhone 5’s, anyone notice that our phones don’t make their audible alert / chime / tone for incoming texts when charging via the USB port? Doesn’t matter if my phone is on “ring” or “vibrate”. Doesn’t happen when my phone is charging when plugged into an electric outlet. Very annoying I can’t seem to figure this out! Thanks.

But you should get an envelope icon on your idrive screen to sgnify you have a message. That can then be read out by the car.
(Note i have iphone 4 but assume other iphones can do the same) |

Thanks; never figured out how to have the car receive / read text messages / e-mails, but we should still receive audible incoming text / e-mail notification alerts(!), no? :|

You should get an audible alert if your using iTunes. I know for sure when streaming Bluetooth. I usually don't ever plug my phone in, but is assume you'd still get the alert tone. Now I don't get the tone when I use any other audio streaming app, just iTunes.

I have an iphone5, and I connect phone functions via bluetooth, and usually stream music through an apple cable through the center console usb.
I dont get any chimes or warnings through the cars system, but it tends to semi mute the music stream, and I can hear my phone making its normal chimes from the center console. I get my warnings on all apps, but only sms and emails can be displayed on the idrive. |

I don't store music on my phone.
It's connected to the car only for calls. The phone itself rings when physically connected to the car. Why doesn't it make audible alerts for texts / e-mails as well, when connected? |

No chimes or tones from my 5S when the Bluetooth is on. Plugged in or not is the same. Have tried changing settings in the phone a bunch of ways and always the same. No envelope symbol on the display either. Would love to figure this out including reading e-mail or texts through the car while driving.
