I have tested 525D and 528i on winter tyres and both where stable at 200km/h. Not close to the nervous E91.

This weekend i have been tested my 530d. Around 1000kms. I have reached 200km/h and the car is like on the rails.

Yes, i have the runflats. But a normal size, 18".
I don't understand people who make a "aesthetic" choise instead a practical, tehnical and logical one. After that... the 19", 20" runflats are bad Last edited by d-rive; 04-12-2011 at 12:04 PM.. |

I thought I might mention, I run tyre pressures @ 36PSI all round.
NO problems in any mode. May go for the new M5, depends on price.

Gents, I'm not sure that is true on the 18" tires. I have the M sport with the 19" run flats and when the car is in comfort mode it's one of the smoothest rides I ever been. I would not drive over 120 mph in this mode since it floats a little, but the normal mode is only slightly stiffer but solid at higher speeds. Sport and sport+ are much stiffer but are certainly better at the higher speeds and agressive cornering. Just my opinion, but the wheels and tires on my car seem to be academic and like I said before, the car is a complete joy to drive. Can't wait every day to turn the key (or rather press the button)!

May I ask what type of suspension you have? Any active packages? Thanks! |

Ohh, sorry for my english. I read what i have been written above
So, let's talk about cars :P I have all active packages, including IAS. I think in the case of this car a period of acomodation is needed, you must learn to understand and get it. Obviously it's very different than previous generations and that is why require a period of adjustment. Electric steering make the feeling of the car very different. After few thousands of kilometers i have understand the car, the way how it works on the bends, the balance of the car and now is really a pleasure to drive it in a sporty way. |

F10 difficult to control at high(er) speeds
I've a 525d F10 with the wobbly steering and I wouldn't like to try anything over 85 on the motorway, as an pretty average crosswind can send me 1/2 lane in either direction.
I took it back after 4 weeks as I though it was broken, but BMW said that's how they wanted it. You just cannot safely squeeze between a truck and the central reservation on a windy night. Swapping to non-flats has stopped it weaving left and right on the inside lane motorway ruts, which is useful as you can't safely go fast enough to use the other lanes. |

My personal feel, coming from 3 generations of 5-series, is that my previous E60 felt more planted and safer at high speeds than my present F10....
Perhaps the E60 is more streamlined since it seemed to be pushed downward slightly onto the road but my F10 feels like I'm riding a bit high and pushing my way through.... On thing for sure, I really feel that the F10 is more susceptible to cross winds than my old E60. I live in Hsinchu which is the 'Windy City' of Taiwan and this has been something that's been bothering me ever since I got the F10. Yes, both cars were lowered. |

I have a 2011 F10 and it sucks above 70mph. Been to the shop many times and they've done what they can. Completely jittery up and down and I do not feel relaxed. I took my '07 E92 to higher speeds in corners than the F10 in a straight line.
Sports package with 19" runflats and non adjustable suspension. I swear it's bent wheel or fucked up tires from sitting on the lot undriven for 3 months before I bought it. Dealer says all within spec.

I've a 530d smport with 19" wheels and mine feel s pretty good at speed as well.
Steering (although not a patch on the E39) does seem to weight up at higher speeds (70mph) even in comfort mode. |

I have a F11 530d xdrive M Sport 2012 (std chassi, 19" RFT Goodyear). The car feels rock solid up to 200 km/h. I have not been able to test it at 200+...yet
Maybe it is the electric steering in non xdrive models that makes the difference? There has been a discussion elsewhere on the forum about the (electric) steering, obviously some people don't like the feeling vs Audi A6, MB E-class or E60/E61? |

yes its certianly different. comparing to my E39 that I just got rid of, its nowwher as good. getting used to the feel of it though.
the E39 is waht i'd descibe as 'raw' in that you can feel everthing going on, it was substantially heavier , especially at slower speeds. I guess thats what servotronic is? where its lighter at slow speeds and gets heavier with speed. Coming from a E39 which was certinly not a light car by any means, the F10 is heavier still but to drive feels lighter to control. In teh E39 you knew were driving something heavy but i don't feel that as much in the F10. Its more luxrury than sporty in my opinion. Probably closer to a 7 series than a 3 , (although I've not driven a 7.) |

Well, since the original message I've had my own F10 to play with and with the suspension in Normal mode I can go up to around 140-160Km/h but the car's stability seems to worsen above that (depending also on road quality, wind, etc).
For higher speeds I feel more comfortable switching the suspension to Sport mode and it's solid: 247Km/h in Germany, highest I could try in less than ideal highway traffic conditions. It "felt" it could go higher so I imagine the real speed was less than my instrument panel readout. |

I have been cruising a lot with the speed approx 80 - 85 mph. Not that fast, but up to that speed it's rock solid and goes straight forward as I expect it to do.
Thats F11 with M-sport, electronic dampers and 18" Continental ContisportContact run flat. |
