Software Updates

Seems to me in the age of tech, if you get a software update, you should be able to update all aspects.

I'm seeing the new G30 virtual gauge modes and maybe it's not everyone's cup of tea, the concept of updating the GUI should be able to be retroactive. Hell Apple does this. The new iOS is always backwards compatible at least a few generations back.

If there's hardware hooked up, no reason it shouldn't be able to be updated. I realize all the software development for older models is not a focal point, but it would be cool.

If they did that then where would your motivation be to buy a new bmw!

They could be more like Apple, however with each sw update your car would slow down....similar to Apple's planned obsolesence.

even with that i'm still a huge BMW and Apple Fan boy LOL

I wonder if the new G30 will be easy to code like F10, lights, video, etc.

What exactly do you mean by virtual gauges?

Yeah but since it's just graphics, why couldn't all clusters with the display capability just be programmed? I probably won't be retrofitting too much, just get the G30 in 3 years.

Well no US F10 got the 6WB cluster. Anyone with it has retrofitted it. Other markets got it, and here in the US we got it in the F13/F14 6 and the X5/6 I think.

Graphics wise they are similar yes, but I also see structural and layout changes. I'd call the G30 cluster an evolution of the F10 6WB.
