Cold Start on 550xi

Wanted to know if anyone else experienced this. Some mornings when I start the car up it will make some sort of screeching sound. Car is a 2011 bmw 550xi. Car drives fine and no codes, but this happens on occasion

Mine does that like one out of every 12 or 15 starts. It's never changed in frequency so I've never bothered to have it checked. I always assumed it's just the starter gear getting hung up for a second after start.

Just a wag but a slipping belt will cause a screech.

old/stretched belt. wet belt. Tensioner on its way out. All depend on how many miles. Not hard to fix or adjust.

In my case, it's not a belt or idler, it's a different sound than that.

How difficult is it to replace the belt or tensioner?

My 2011 X5 E70 with same engine did that random screech on startup, and then one morning the starter was dead.

That sound disappeared after starter motor was replaced.

Be warned, the starter is difficult to access... and dealer wanted $1k for labor + $600 for part. I replaced myself with ISTA instructions and it was a real PITA. My total cost $150 with remanufactured oe starter.

Maybe its difficult on the X5. But how difficult is it on the F10?
