Change wood trim to hexagonal aluminum

Anyone have experience with what effort it will take to change out the trim in a 2015 550i?

Dealer mistake on European Delivery order (that was an unwelcome Munich surprise) and weighing having a new car built versus local retrofit.

I advised dealer in writing production order made no ref to hex and they wrote assurances it would be hex. Oops.

Thanks.

It's pretty easy. I took out the center consol yesterday to polish out the scratches in the wood and it's a piece of cake. Is the dealer going to make you whole on the switch?

Thanks Mbbrewer. How about the dash and door trims; just as easy? Yes, it's up to the dealer to fix this; it's all in writing, they assured me it would be hex trim despite my pointing out it wasn't mentioned on the production order (all in writing); they have no choice but to make it right. What I'm most worried about is whether I'll end up with a bunch of trim popping out of place, unfastened wires behind the dash, and odd noises. I would rather just have them order me a new car if there's any risk of it being any less than 100%.

I see your point Bill. If they are willing to order you a new car, I would go that route. Would they be willing to give you a loaner while the new car is built?

Thanks. That's what I'm thinking too; unless someone chimes in stating they've swapped all of the trim and it's all snap in easy. Loaner is no problem. I have three BMW's to drive. Now, whether the dealer will step up to flying me to Munich for another European delivery is the real question :-).

Its a very easy job. I have changed from Alu fine to Anthracite wood.

I drive the car every day and use it alot. Nothing is making any sounds, popping out or anything. You will not notice any difference at all if they do everything correct.

So donīt worry, let them do the swap and try to make them compensate you instead =).

Thanks PeterGriffin. Interesting. To be clear, you changed dash, doors, and console? Does it snap off / snap on? Must the entire dash be disassembled to get to fasteners within?

BillFuchs, Yes, I changed all of my trim.

If i remember correctly the ones in the doors you just pull them right of.
2 min for all for doors.

The fasteners are in the trim so its just to pull everything of, after you pull the dash trim of you unscrew the center vents and lights control. The fasteners are also in metal so nothing will brake are become loose.

For the center console its one unit with the ashtray etc. You just unscrew the i-drive controller from underneath when its loose.

Im not a mechanic, and im also not a diy:er. But this is really easy.
Don't worry, everything will be 100%. This is a really simple fix.

So just to be clear: Everything snaps on and off. You don't have to disassemble the dash. The fasteners are in the trim, there are holes in the dash and doorpanels.
