Thanks for sharing. A reminder to all when negotiating your deal for your car, pre-negotiate a discount for rims and snows!

As you all know, dealers will always charge you "an arm & a leg". I personally just want to spend about $2500 max on the 18" winter tires/rims package.

Currently considering the VMR V710 18" for about $2500 (all incl.) from tires23.com quote.

Therefore, the difference of almost $1200 more compared to the dealer's package.

Sigh, getting ready to buy my winter tires, temp is dropping hard here in Germany and I am going to be in violation. The local dealer is running a special I am going to check out for my car price (dont know specifics yet) is about 2200 Eur which converts loosely to 2800 USD.

Tirerack with shipping, etc last time I checked was 3500 for 19inch, it wouldnt give me an option for 18" which I prefer for winter on my 550 w/ sport package.

I've done it a couple of times now and yes, it is usually far cheaper to get them from TireRack even with the extra shipping/brokerage charges to get them into Canada than buying it here.

My friend owns a tire store and TireRack is still cheaper than what he can get for me.

Funny, I looked everywhere but the dealer and was unhappy with the prices. I went to the dealer the other day and asked, 18" package, 1960 Euro, not bad, will probably to my shock go with the dealer.

If that's the same package as in my post (for Canada version), 1960 Euro is a GREAT price.

Actually, for the Canadian BMW dealers selling at $3500 listing price, I figure they will make about $1000 for each set sold.

I've got the following (quoted from my confirmation email) from Sorat Tires shipped to me in Ottawa fron Vancouver (www.soratwheels.ca):
BMW M6 Replica wheels with 245/45/18 Bridgestone Blizzak LM 25 Runflat tires, TPMS sensors, mounted+balanced, shipped to your door for $2195cdn + tax
I have (well technically waiting for delivery of) a 2011 55i xDrive with mSport. The car has the 19" wheels but the the slection listed above has the same circumference. The rims are good match to the mSport rims.

The Cdn 5 series do not use Direct TPMS, it uses Indirect TPMS. Meaning the additional sensors you purchased for those aftermarket wheels are totally unnecesary. Check with your dealer to confirm. I did.

As for the aftermarket wheels themselves, I did lots of researches but none of the vendors can guarantee those aftermarket wheels will clear the front brake calipers, esp. the 550 (back brake calipers are not the issue as they are smaller than the front) which is bigger than the 535 & 528.

bobblehead: I understand your statement on the indirect TPMS as that is what is in my current '08 335xi. My dealer informed me that my car would have the sensors in it. Now, I haven't received the car yet so i can't confirm however I wanted to make sure I had the wheels and tires ready for when I received the car. I suspect the dealer had no clue whether the vehicle has them or not - although I have no idea why not as they have a number new 2011 535i's already, just none of the 535i xDrives. In any case I suppose I'll find out soon enough.

Thanks.

Just put my snow tires on today. M6 replica wheels, 18X8, Dunlop Winter Sport 3D runflats, complete package less than $2500.00 taxes in. Anyone in the GTA area looking for good service and good prices, check out Tiremag in Concord. Don't know the exact address, but it is on Keele St. north of HWY 7. I tried 2 other BMW replica wheels before these, both 18X8, but they did not fit over the front calipers which are hugh!

They are the same rims as I got but mine have black in the shadows rather than gunmetal grey you have.

BTW they look great on your ride.

I spoke with my dealer (largest one in Vancouver) on exactly the same thing. They advised that to date, there have been no Canadian cars (that they have received) equipped with direct TPMS. Added to this, they also indicate that some cars are coming with metal valve stems but with no sensors attached. Hence, the metal valve stems can no longer be trusted to indicate the presence of TPMS sensors. They said the above has been confirmed as they have checked out the cars they receive.

For me, that kinda sucks as I bought a set of OEM branded sensors for my 535i M-Sport (which is also coming and should be here in 1 -2 weeks). The sensors I bought are the exact model as BMW uses but have the manufacturers brand on them (Beru) vs. having the BMW logo. I guess I may be putting them up for sale soon after my car gets here (just to be sure).

Regarding Sorat Wheels, I live here in Vancouver and considered going with them. Then, I found out that they have quite a few BBB complaints against them for bad service and other issues. Based on that, I decided to steer clear.

I've also ordered the M6 replica wheels. Will get them fitted by the wheel dealer just to make sure it fits before I take them. This way, I can get a full refund if they don't fit and get something else. They should fit and I will post results as soon as I get my car in 1 -2 weeks and get the rims fitted.

TI'm told that the M6 replicas that I'm getting are Replika brand. They are 18x8.5 and they're being matched to Falken HS439 Eurowinter performance snow tires (non runflat). As Vancouver winters are mainly wet with light snow only, these will be just fine as they've had good ratings in dry, wet & light snow. Total price including tax approx $1900 CAD.

Originally, I want to spend a bit less by going to get the VMR wheels, but at that time, nobody can assure me those wheels will clear the 550 front brake caliper, therefore, due to uncertainty, I have to go to BMW stock winter rims/tires combo package as you can see the pic of my car with them on post # 17 from above. The price difference is about $1200 between BMW stock combo package & VMR combo package.

Tires are Dunlop WinterSport 3D RF 245/45/18. Very good winter tires and if you are buying winter tire this year, Dunlop has just updated the 3D to a 4D.

If you are buying non BMW rims, ie. aftermarket rims, here are the guidelines. This package will definitely fit your 535 or 550. If you have 528, I believe you can downsize to 17".

1) For 18" wheel, try to get 18 * 8 , offset 30. +/- a couple of points from 30
2) The tires for the above wheel should be 245/45/18
3) Winter tires of your preference & liking & budget
4) Hub centric rings are highly recommended and even required to ensure no vibration issue
5) No need to buy another set of TPMS for the winter setup

If you are buying in the GTA, tires23.com & Gofortires.com are couple of good places to deal with.

Hope this help you a bit. If you need more info & clarification, just PM me and I would be happy to provide further guidance.

BMW winter combo - style 281 - 18" wheel - 245/45/18 RF

Last year, there is only 1 winter combo package offered by BMW dealers. Everyone is charging a bit different. I bought mine at BMW Toronto and have to negotiate with Scott (Parts Mgr) to get the $3600 (all inclusive deal). In another word, I saved the 13% HST & install.

You can ask your dealer to see what is the going price right now, it may be too early but try to see if you can get a deal CHEAPER than mine to ensure you get a so-called bargain deal for shopping early.
(just to give you a reference of US pricing - last year the same winter combo package was selling for $2500 US. We, Canadian, always get ripped off. Perhaps, if you do travel to US regularly, you can consider calling a few BMW dealers in the States and see if it is worth the trouble).

For whatever quote you get from your dealer (where you bought your car), call a few other BMW dealers to see how much they want and go from there.
