Dumb question, but instead of speculating I'll ask: What's the purpose of the vacuum line?
Your tips look fantastic, BTW. Something I'll definitely entertain when my 550i finally arrives next month. |

550i trapzoid exhaust tip
Do you think I can take the trapzoid exhaust tip off your hands? I don't want the quad(4)-looking exhaust anymore since I had it on my other cars. Please let me know, greatly appreciated...

What did you plug the hoses with, still after time have you noticed anything unusual?

I plugged the vacuum lines using small plastic screw and wire-tied to keep it tight. It's a vacuum line so plug it securely or plug it at the source - the vacuum activator. 10 months and no problems or codes.

Thanks, I ordered the tips, now to see if they fit. I ordered the 2013 M-5 tips, My dealership didnt charge me to order them until they see if they are going to fit, if they dont I will order the Borla like you did.

The M5 tips were not available earlier in the year - let us know how they fit.

I received my borla tips today, did you weld them on, the pics you posted didnt look welded, also did you have to cut down the 2-1/4 inch side to shorten them a bit, so they didnt stick out so far?
Thanks, JimmyD |

The M-5 tips were just clip on tips, and they arent angled, the borla are much better, and more heavy duty, the 2013 M-5 tips from BMW are really thin and not worth the $77.00 a piece that they charge.

yes the Borla tips are tack welded on. No cutting to shorten them. I cut the stock tips off about 3/4" away from the muffler using a sawz-all and slid the Borla tips on until the length looked good

Did you disconnect the battery before welding, if you did, what had to be reset? also I noticed the outside exhaust tubes from the muffler cants inward while the other tube is straight, was there any play when you slid the tips on so you could shift both tips to look parallel with each other?

No we did not disconnect the battery. There is enough inner diameter difference to position these any way you like. I tack welded one side of the tip to the muffler to hold it in place - then using a breaker bar placed into the center of the tip - pried them into position before welding the other side

Does your car feel like you lost any back pressure at all?

barely noticeable at lower rpms and idle.

its alway easier to cut them shorter than it is to lengthen.

Exhaust tips look great, but I feel like the quad setup fits the M Sport a lot better. The Square Tips just flow better with the car, much more classy look.

+ 1 for the square tips!
Thanks to Jimmy D, I was able pick up his chrome tips to switch out my black tip . I set them about 3/4" from the bumper facia...the contrast with the M Sport diffuser looks good to my eyes. Car is otherwise still a stock and mellow ride.
Just as a back up, I'm sitting on a set of '07 M6 mufflers ready for a quad tip conversion just in case I tire of chrome square tips. If I go that route, I think all will be lost since I'll want to put on an M5 style diffuser, add some 3" mandrel bent pipes all over, drop the car with some coil overs, through in some Dinan 2, etc (Yikes!) |
