535i HPFP Failure rate
Gents, I have been lurking on the forum as of lately as I am about to get a new car, and I am between a 335 and a 535, on the 335 forum I can read hundreds of complaints about the HPFP, and whereas on this forum there is no complaints that I could read about. Since both use the same engine, can someone en light me why is that?
Thanks |

meh, where do I begin. The problem is with the 3 series N54 engines MY 07-10. The 335i 2011 model switched to the N55 engine which is what the 2011 535i has.

yes, mine has 2500km and it's sitting in dealership for a week already, so I have to enjoy nissan versa for the long weekend and nice weather. I'm so pissed didn't even want to post about that. I don't know is it just me or BMW is making crap cars!? In my 545i smg I've had always problems with my transmission etc. 6 months of 2 years ownership bimmer was in the shop. Then after that my X6 had hpfp failure twice! and now while I was enjoying my new car with only 2k km it stopped 10 times couldn't start it on the light. The car was shaking like there's no tomorrow and plus to everything I have to drive nissan f..king versa wtf bmw???

1. Going for a 335 will give me a car that will be upgraded in 2012 2. Going for a 535 will give me a car that I might not like the handling, since this one does not have the sports package nor the M// Package. 3. Both of them have an engine that is prone to the pump failure, and I am leaving one that is bullet proof, as I never had any type of problems with it. Sheesh, what to do? Scrap BMW altogether, and go with another brand? Used M3? I have been debating it with myself since last Tuesday, and I hate to not being able to pull trigger. Any suggestions? I wouldn't go with 335i cause it will look dated when new 3 series will come out, but M is M )) IMO e46 m3 still looks good!!! |

If you want handeling get am m3 first, then a 335 then another brand.
The f10 5 series is very heavy and has no racy feel to it. its a very nice sport luxury car. |

Although it is pretty peppy for its size based on the test drive that I did. Thanks for your answer. By listening to every one of you, I am coming to the conclusion on what I want and what are the alternatives out there. As of this morning I started sending some e-mails, I narrowed my search to a M3 and an Audi S4.

335 or if you go 5 series go 550. You'll need the bigger motor to compensate for the weight. As soon as I am done with this 535 I'll be switching to 435 or 650 gran coupe.
I'm either case your hpfp is covered for 10 years so you're good if it fails.

Was your HPFP covered under warranty? My 2011 is at the shop now for another HPFP failure. I'm hoping the dealership covers it since it was replaced pre-warranty expiration.

Ive been shopping for a 5 series but cant decide what to get. I have an 08 E90 and I love the car. Only thing I've had an issue with is my water pump. Damn plastic housing is always leaking. Live in West Texas so I don't know if that has a lot to do with it. Going to try ethanol after fbo to help with temps. Did replace hpfp under warranty and been ok since(132,000 mls). Everything else is maintenance. Anyways, I'm concerned with engine reliability between N54 and N55. Also, the drive of the heavier 535i N55 compared to the 2010 535i.

Just got word from the dealership that the HPFP on my 2011 535i is bad. Currently on a quest for best price and info on difficulty of replacement. The dealership says the latest part number is 13517616170.
Questions: What brand is the OEM pump? If I decide to go down the Mission Performance flash tuning route, is there value to buying something different that has more capacity? If such a thing exists...

EDIT: In the end, I bought a re-manufactured pump from FCP Euro with a lifetime warranty. About half the price, and a much cheaper core charge.
