Mmmm protein.

Question

A fly is making it's way up the motorway when it is hit head on by an F11.

On the way to it's grizzly death the fly travelled in one direction but after hitting the F11 it was very definitely travelling in the opposite direction. In reversing it's direction of travel, it must have stopped for a very brief moment. Therefore the F11 must have stopped too.

If not, why not?

Let's see if someone pitches up with an answer.

(Clue - it isn't necessary to use Biggs Hoson in an explanation for this)

Upon impact the F11 made the fly change its direction, and at that very moment the fly was stationary. Right then the F11 caught up to the fly going in the opposite direction (because the F11 was faster) and the fly planted itself to the front of the F11 with the help of its discharging bodily fluids. The F11 never stopped due to the great mass differential between the fly and the F11, but only momentarily flung the fly out a lithe further before it caught up again.

On the other hand, the fly just went and glued itself right on and never had a chance to be pushed forward

That F11 looks badass after that drive!

Good luck getting those off!

No, because the f10 had more mass and probably speed meaning it had more momentum? (velocity x mass)? Just throwing it out there.

Q: What's the last thing that went through the fly's mind when it hit the F10?
A: Its butt.

The fly does indeed undergo a change in direction that does result in it stopping very briefly.

However, the F11 does not change direction and therefore does not stop. To be pedantic, you can say that hitting the fly does slow it down a teensy weensy bit.

But I still wonder what happened that instant the velocity of the fly was zero, it had to happen somewhere when it went from 2km/h to -200km/h. It was at some moment stuck to the car, it was going 0 km/h , and my car say 160 at the same time. Strange!

Ah, kudos to you for bringing Einstein's theory of relativity into the forum!
