Tranny bang

The other day on an on-ramp to the high way I turned off the engine on/off then 5 seconds or so later I hit the accelerator, went into gear after revving a bit, felt like I got bumped in the rear. Any one experienced this?

This almost happened to my college roommate back when we were in Key West on spring break. Luckily he noticed her Adam's apple!

Sorry...couldn't resist.

Think it could be related to you getting rear-ended?

Could be, the damage was over 8K, I did the tranny service and it was fine before. I need to go back to BMW, the foot activation on the trunk is not working, I'll ask them. Staring to negotiate diminished value as CarFax will show it hit now.

Very common in the older models, my 2006 X5 did it alot, one of the reasons i finally traded it for the 2012 535, Its a software issue they kept telling me. Its an extended delay before it engages...

I could usually tell it was going to happen : when you start out-- feather the gas until the car starts to move, then its fine, if it just revs up its gonna CLUNK, sometimes it felt like the tranny was going to fall out. So if it just revs let off wait a split second and youll feel it engage, then go as normal..

Im suspecting its your X6 thats doing it as my 535 has NEVER done it
Be thankfull you dont have the older 4.4 V8.......another issue

Search: Transmission clunking into gear on the older models forum

Welcome to older Bimmer trannys

Good luck

Thanks, my 2009 X6 xdrive never did it, my 2012 535 xdrive did it once after I hit the on/off engine, disabling it. Been trying to talk the dealer into a software upgrade, I get the "service due since Jan-2001" on startup.
