Best (and worst) MPG photos

All,

What's the best MPG photo you can get from your car? No cheating by going a short distance downhill. The photo below was over 100 miles and cruising at 70MPH. I know the manual cars will do better but mine is a 520d auto Touring. PS - This is uk MPG.

Fully aware that 535/550's won't get near this so please state what F10/11 you have.

My car looks really dusty in the photo. It needs a clean but doesn't look that bad in real life!!!

This is what I got on my N20 528, but note the average speed. I will take my first long road trip soon, and I am hoping for 35mpg. I'll report back then

This is what I get on my 550. I'm pretty sure some people get better MPG with the V8, but that's how I enjoy driving!

14.9 I couldn't get that on my 530d if I tried - although it would be fun giving it a go!

Well this is my pic on my 530d. (UK mpg)
I did have 62.0mpg on the screen just as I exited the motorway.

I don't have a pic but my 535i N52 with myself and the wife in the car cruising @70 mph flat land no air conditioning on I achieved 34mpg over the course of one hour.

That's a pretty good mileage.. Are you driving on highways only? Mine would be around 15mpg (even less at times) and I drive like 80% on highways without any tunes :P

Fantastic mileage!

I am yet to finish my first full tank (almost there). It is currently averaging at 7.1 liters per 100 km, which converts to 39.9 mi/gal (UK) and 33.1 mi/gal (US).

One of the coolest things that they did at the Première at the BMW Welt was to congratulate me for having "all round, the fastest car in the world for a thousand kilometers".

Got this on my trip between DC and Philly a couple weeks ago... Reset the computer at Dulles airport and took this pic at one of the rest stops on I-95 before the DMB.

If you reset it and drive at late night with cruise control on an empty highway for 60 miles, you can get very close results!

90%hwy/10% rural roads, but I drove the speed limits which is why the mpgs were so high. Normally, I average 25mpgs on the same route. Overall, I've averaged 21mpgs over 28kmi. I was told Dinan leans out the fuel ratio at lower rpms, but I can't confirm.

You figured out my secret.

Although, I find I can do better than the cruise control.

This is after 5000km.... I generally don't reset the journey computer. In Australia we use L/100km but I changed it to mpg for continuity in the thread. Most of my driving is city driving and mostly in Sport mode. I save Eco Pro for the morning 25km school runs!

That's darn good! I gather that's with the 520d, not with the X5 40d.

Yeah that's the 520d for sure. The 40d gives 32 UK mpg. My last car (E90 M3) was seriously heavy on the premium unleaded..... about 18 UK mpg

What I love most about the diesel BMWs is the torque! Lock in Sport mode and your head better be firmly up against the headrest!

My choice of all 5er's would be the M550d.... unfortunately not coming to Oz as it's not being built in RHD.

Same with me. Cruise control applies too much throttle at times

I get around 11-13 in the day time. 15 at night with the same driving style, 80% city.

With more civilized driving ill get 15 in the city and around 18 on the highway.

My first long road trip...I now have 10k miles on odo

DC to Philly

And Philly to DC. Notice the return speed was much higher and higher mpg (???). Anyhow, I am sure I could get 36mpg (US) out of this thing if I drove at 65 mph, but unfortunately I cannot drive that way LOL

depends your style of driving and whether this is cruising or around town. Brand new engine so I asusme it will get better with some more miles on it, its probably quite 'tight' at the moment.
