I got a 7/84 from a dealer on Southern California (I purchased on Nor. Cal.). The dealer up here wanted about $5,500 and the dealer down south sold it for about $3K. I can't see how the extra mileage would be the difference. I think you need to do more shopping. What I did learn is that I could not get a dealer outside of California to sell me a warranty in California. I had to go in-state, and even then the process involved sending my key down there overnight for a keyscan since I had purchased the car in the past week. All in all it was a completely seamless process though, key back and signed contract in 48 hours.

For those of you looking to buy an extended warranty while your car is new (at purchase), I'd consider Geico's Mechanical Breakdown Insurance.

You need to get it when the car is less than 15 months old and less than 15k miles. Here are the benefits:

1. It's dirt cheap - it's only about $200/year for my 550xi. It's about $120/year for my wife's Audi Q5. So, in 4 years, after BMW's warranty has expired, I'll have paid about $800 for an extended warranty that then kicks-in - WAY cheaper than shelling out $3k - $5k.

2. You only "pay as you go" - if you don't end up keeping the car, you haven't paid much. Granted, there's nothing to "recover" in a sale, but at the same time you're unlikely recover the entire cost of the policy in a sale for an extended warranty anyway.

3. It's comprehensive. It covers everything - mechanical and electrical - except for normal wear and tear items (brake pads, wiper inserts, etc). There's a $250 deductible, but that's a drop in the bucket when paying for 4 or 5 year old 5-series issues at BMW labor rates.

The way I see it, if I keep the car for 6 years, I'll have paid in around $1,200 for the coverage. If I used it for repairs 4 times after BMW's warranty expired, that's another $1,000 in deductibles. Puts the grand total around $2,200 over 6 years... and I had the benefit of paying it out slowly and only when/if necessary... so it could quite possible cost no more than $1,200 over those 6 years if no incidents occurred.

Anyway, I'd highly recommend it if you have a car that fits the bill - less than 15 months and 15k miles... and you use Geico for your insurance, of course.

I quoted USAA's Extended Warranty for my 2012 550 XDrive MSport and it was $6300US.

Looking at some of Daniel's quote from the pass, it looks like he was discounting about $650 off retail. The retail for a 7 yrs/70K miles for a 2012 535xi is about $4930. Even with the $650 off, $4280 is a lot of money to pay for an extra 20000 miles of warranty. I guess it is approx. a $1000 cheaper when you buy the warranty when new, but I do not like doing that since most of the time, I end up canceling it at a lost.

You can but Bmw warranty from any BMW dealership in country and they can give you better price and no tax when you buy out of state. Saved 1000 plus tax When I bought gold package recently. Don't let these guys bullshit you in your home state.

I believe BMW changed their policy, the car needs to be inspected and keyfob downloaded. I called a few dealers in state and out of state and they all said the same thing.

You can mail them your key for them to read. First class mail and they mail it back. Take a few days and cost 50 bucks tops not even. To save 1000.

Got quoted $3709 from AAA 4 years 100k from date of purchase of warranty. ($100 ded. at any shop, $50 at preferred, $0 at AAA)

They say the prices fluctuate based on miles, I have a 2011 550i X with 42k.

or

$4200 for the Gold, which covers everything but the Nav system.

My feeling is you will not have $5,000+ in repairs in the next 50K miles. You don't need to pay BMW their crazy prices either. Find a reputable local mechanic that works only on German cars. The right guy will be completely familiar with your car and will save you a bundle. If you live in an area where a lot of folks drive nice cars, it should not be hard.

I'm considering this too when my warranty goes up next year. I drive about 11 miles a day M-F, and maybe on the weekends 20-30 depending if I go out of town or not. With such low use I really don't abuse it, but drive it spiritedly around town (when I can) and plan to just set aside a little each month to pair for anything that comes up.
I've already had the fuel sensor issue on the engine taken care of, so just like everyone else with an N63 F10, waiting to see what (if any) are the major/recurring issues with the car or engine as time goes on. But, my Mgr said he bought the B M aftermarket on his 135i for about $4k and the things that went wrong on his car they wouldn't fix, like the windows motors, other interior issues, something else here and there. I dunno. I luckily have two pretty awesome techs in the Houston area to use, so I probably will just save my $$ and use them when needed. I want to keep this for a long time.
