I got mine fromCotswold BMW in Gloucester who were happy to post them to me.

Will PM contact.

Edit: I'll add that he was extremely sceptical of my ability to use them without him also selling me the associated code, but happy to do so on the proviso that I couldn't return them if whatever I planned didn't work out (which it did).

I got my fsc code from the contact as shown above and downloaded the DVDs from ftp://fscmap.com

I was told that you could by the media without an activation code from the dealer for £26 but that may vary.

Hi Xenon,

That link requires a ftp login, what user/password did you use?

Thanks

Hi Guys,
I used the USB port in the glovebox to update my NAV to 2012 premium. It is much handier and more reliable than the DVD route. I have the 3 iso images saved on my NAS drive.

If anyone (within reason) wants to send me a 32Gb USB stick with a SAE, I will put them on it for them and post it back again. FOC of course.

I didn't know you could do it through the USB. Re. username and password, I emailed them for a username and password to download, which they provided without me actually buying anything from them.

I would prefer to buy the disks from BMW and the FSC code from the aforementioned person in the forum.

Thanks..
The part number is B65.90.2.218.943 (update DVD) and costs £22.20.

It does show on BMWs system as one part (ie DVD and update) but they can manually put the part number is and order the DVD.

So what code do you need to upgrade. I have the 2011 version in mine but would like to update it if the cost aren't too expensive. £22.50 doesn't sound bad without code.....but how much for code?

I actually upgraded mine from 2011i to 2012(101104.2.17) without the need for an FSC code. The car is a Jan 2012 F11. I just put the files (Files from 3 ISO Images) on three separate USB drives and started with the first drive and completed the upgrade with the other two. It was all very simple and easy.

Was it a cracked image somehow? I've upgraded 3 now and they always ask for the activation code (a nice, easy 20-odd digits) once you've inserted disc 1.

To be honest I'm not 100% sure. I downloaded the files from the same FTP server you did. Although I did read on another forum two people upgraded from 2011i without the need for an FSC code. Unless the 2011i version is an early release of the 2012 Maps and they allow upgrades to 2012 without an FSC – but I’m guessing tbh.

Yes, could be. I didn't notice the exact version I was upgrading from on any of the three I did but you could very well be right in that some upgrades are free. Still, good result for you

Quick question: Does each map version update have a unique FSC code or is the code per VIN?

If I now buy a FSC code to upgrade from 2009 to 2012, will I have to buy another FSC code to migrate from 2012 to 2013 maps or will the same FSC code work?

You need a new code, otherwise you would have lifetime updates.

But then how are these code providers (from the internet) able to provide a code using only the VIN number?

These vendors do not ask for which maps I am upgrading to/ from… all they want is my VIN number and some $ - and they sends code out…

Or have I misunderstood something?

I guess the assumption is to issue a code for 2012 maps.

Are BMW having a laugh here? We pay 1500 odd quid for this package and then have to pay £200 a year to keep up to date? WTF..... !!!! TomTom maps can be had for £50 or so after only shelling out the same for the unit.

that is expensive which ever way you look at it.
I wonder how many people will actually update their nav?

To be honest when I ran my e39 I dodn't update the nav for many years and 99% of the time its fine, you do occasionaly find a road or roundabout that wasn't on the map but no showstoppers, probably not a big deal though.

At those prices I won't be updating every year, perhaps ever 4-5 years more realistically.
I also have to face the fact that after 3 years I'll be looking to keep RTTI going as well which I belive means a cost to keep BMW assist or whatever its called to stop it falling back to TMC.

Perhaps BMW assume that as we are able to pay for an expensuive car we are moneyu bags and will happily pay £200 for an nav update?

I agree that the updates are very expensive but say the update costs £200, that's only about 10% of the cost of the full system. TomTom percentages probably work out more expensive! But yes I agree that BMW thinks you can afford that if you can afford a BMW!

My point is that when you pay a couple of thousand pounds for the nav system, it should be at least up to date when you drive the car out the showroom!

Douglas Park, Glasgow wanted something like £360 to update my e92 2009 Pro Nav high line msport to the latest version. Even that though wont have the M74 extension on it.

Note to ANYONE buying a BM with nav, it will be out of date the moment you pick up your car and they will want silly money to update it when the next release of software comes out. A shocking policy.Really worth noting if you are looking for a used bm (perhaps try to get it updated as part of the sale) but ridiculous when buying new.

its as shame as it looks like Mercedes and Volvo are offering free map updates on some of their cars.

Just an update for anyone interested. There is a new 2013 Premium map update now available for Europe. I've just updated from 2012 tonight and it needed an FSC code. I'm based in Ireland and it looks to have included some new roads and junctions with this update. I can't speak for the UK or other European countries, so I’m not sure how much an update it is from the 2012 version.

It would be handy if they published some release notes and what changes are in each version

I saw this too. I am between minds as to whether I should update now or wait for the one next year's release!
