Delighted with new F10

I ordered my 520d / TS / oyster black / High Gloss shadowline/ 18'' 328s 4 mths ago and to be honest was worried that the whole thing might end in anti-climax...............well no worries there. The car is amazing (collected 15th Jan). No steering problems, no jerkiness. This car is so far ahead of my 2006 e60 it's not true .

Over the past months I've read much F10 bashing on this forum and wonderer if any F10 owner (former e60 owner) regretted their f10 purchae and wish they could have their e60 back. Can't see it myself, this car ticks all the boxes. I'd love to say I will keep this car for 10 yrs however my only reservation is that there is so much technology in this car something has to give and most likely after the 3 yr warranty (recently increased from 2 here in Ireland) expires.

Had meant to research running in procedures but forgot to!!! OBC currently showing 17MPG which on a 520d with 200 miles up confirms running in procedures have been ignored. BTW dealer advises no running in necessary.

I agree. The F10 has been a joy and a technical leap ahead of my 2003 E39 series. Few issues to cmplain about but definately no show stoppers. On top of that one of the best looking cars on the road.

As far as break in procedures, can only speak for the gasoline engines, which they recommend to kep the RPM's low for the first 1,200 miles or so.

Have fun with your new car.

Get a different dealer... obviously their 'spokesman' knows nothing about cars and why we run in components. It is not just the engine.

'Moderation' is the least I'd recommend. We can be 'too easy' on an engine, but that is totally different from nothing is necessary.

Strange don't you think, that BMW recommend a running in procedure?

I agree completely. Running in procedure is in the manual (within the car - I couldn't find it in the hard copy) and should be followed.

I wonder if the dealer will put "no running in necessary" onto paper. This could be a useful tool in 3 years time if he will (and something goes wrong).

Congrats on the car finbrad - I had an E61 from 2006 to 2008 and I agree, it was a great car, but the F10 is simply better.

They're in the handbook and, as Highland Pete says, you should change your dealer or, at the very least, take them to task for giving you such bad information.
Running in is essential, especially if you plan on keeping the car long term. Just follow the handbook recommendations, but keep varying the RPM and load as much as possible within the stated limitations.
17 mpg is alarmingly bad, even on a new engine; my 535d returned 36 mpg from the beginning and it's steadily improving. I suggest that you reset the OBC and journey computer, then do a brim to brim check.

It's unfortunate that on auto forums owners rarely say how well their car is behaving. Granted, forums are a good place to vent about problems (and hopefully find sympathy and advice.) But it would be nice if people would say positive things more often.

Imagine the thousands of happy new F10 owners out there in the world who never even venture near a car forum. If all was so bad, sales would begin to drop by now. But they haven't.

That's interesting; how do you feel about the difference in steering response and feedback? Additionally, what size wheels are fitted and do you have adaptive drive?
I switched from an E92 330d M Sport to my F10 535d M Sport auto on 18" wheels with adaptive drive and whilst I obviously couldn't expect such a large car to handle as sharply, I am disappointed with the lack of steering feel, especially in the straight-ahead/on-centre position. My dealer agrees and they are currently being very helpful in trying to resolve the issue.
Other than that, I think it's a fantastic car, but as your switch contrasts similarly to mine, I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts - many thanks.

Right I have covered 240miles, longest drive 45 miles shortest 17miles, mixed roads some traffic jams.
First fill up (brim to brim) 28.5MPG
I am going to do a longer run this weekend to see if it can average 30MPG+
The steering is fine and does NOT wonder or get affected by wind, I have no issues at all. The car is Mental quick from tick over, much more drivable than my M3, it's also silent in operation which is refreshing, it's like roller going along.
The car handles fine but it's NO M3, it corners fine and holds a good line.
I have the Normal/Sport and Sport+ settings, NO other steering aids and it is great. The engine is silent you have to listen to here it until you give it some real boot.
The book says "Once the Oil is warmed up" keep under 4.5K RPM well @ 1900 RPM my car is doing 82MPH so no trouble keeping the revs down.
The car is very eager to fly and this could be a problem for the unsuspecting, I would put it close to the M3 to 100MPH, in gear I would say as quick to 100MPH.
These cars are very rare mine is still the first one ordered in the UK, BMW have two black one's somewhere, no one seems to know were they are!!!!

Pictures are elsewhere on this forum.

Comhghairdeas Finbrad! Hope you enjoy the new wheels. It sure is one hell of a car.

Is deas a fheiceáil go bhfuil an Ghaeilge á labhairt ag muintir na hAlban fosta.
