Back...with a bang!

I defected to an F30 330d MSport in July 2013, bit of a mid life crisis!! The 3 was fun but so unrefined and noisy so quietly got into a 520d MSport last September... However, that irresistible lure of a six cylinder BMW lingered and I lingered in the long grass, waiting to pounce, having finally (I hope!!) trained my head to overrule my heart and NOT buy a new car....

So, Christmas is coming early...picking up on Friday the following species, a 15 car (151 in Irish plates) as follows:

530d MSport
Sophisto Grey / Oyster (exterior colour not my first choice but read on...)

MSport Plus Pack (HK sound, 19 inch wheels, sun protection glass)
Adaptive Led light package
Head up display
Comfort seats with full memory functions
Electric sun roof
Comfort access
Electric folding auto dimming mirrors
Prif
Pro Nav package
M Sport spoiler
Connected drive package
Individual Piano Black Triim
Extended Air Con

Plus some other stuff which I haven't explored yet. Hope you all agree, not bad!!!

Congrats... Great spec.
You will absolutely love the HUD and the Adaptive LEDs

I had the Sophisto Grey colour in my first F10, it is an Xirallic paint (a slight step above metallic). You will like the colour as it does change shade depending on the light. Bright sun, cloudy days, fluorescent lights in fuel stations, and sodium lamp street lights - the car will appear to have different shades... ranging from black to dark blue to grey to dark steel.
Enjoy.

nice specification indeed.
The engine is I think much better than the 2 litre, smoother and obviously faster.
Effortless, 1500RPM at 70 mph. and if you put your foot down pulling away from lights, it rewards you with very quick acceleration. (Don't floor it straight away , part throttle and then once you are going put your foot down and it really shifts. Far too easy to spin the wheels if you're not careful with all of that torque)

HUD is great and I wouldn't like to select a car without it now. Later models have the entertainment list displayed as well.

We all await the pictures. Find a nice location and post them up here!

Good move, enjoy a great car.

I took on a Sophisto Grey 535i to get a superb spec'. Not my first choice either, but specification is more important than colour, when you find the right example.

Enjoy!

My colour is Sophisto Grey ll, the metallic 'fill in' while the Japanese plant couldn't supply Xirallic due to the earthquake/tsunami.

Still quite good in bright sunshine, but is a bit dull in cloudy conditions, so not ideal up here.

Yes, mine is a metallic not a xirallac paint so it won't have the nuances under different light conditions, not that we've had much sun here this summer!!

Since I had the same engine in the 330d last year I didn't need to an extensive test drive but on the short spin I had the feel of that engine and the effortless power surge put a smile on my face!

I drove a 730d last week just for kicks..by comparison it felt underpowered and really lacking any hint that it might like to be actually driven like a BMW.

Uh oh - sounds like my story

Went to a new 2012 f30 330d from a e60 530d

Absolutely hated the road roar in it so transfected to a new f10 520d .

Love the ambience of the 5 and regal serenity but the lack of a 6 pot irks me

Your story tempts me but I think I am going to wait until 20 percent discounts appear on the x5 then ask my dealer to make me an offer I can't refuse.

Love ur spec and love the 5 though .

That is some car you are getting!
Is it the one that was for sale in Paul Tobin's?
A really epic spec and the 3 litre is the biz. Rare here in Ireland but I do see more of them coming up now that the recession is supposedly over.
That car is a definite keeper though. I hope you enjoy it.

Excuse the delayed reply to some of your messages, I was away.

Anyhow....some of the things I discovered on the spec that I don't think I mentioned initially:
- heated steering wheel ! Not sure about this but I'll report back in December!
- powered boot : press a button and it shuts and locks, handy I guess
- comfort access: no need to plop the remote, just walk up with fob on person and open a door, useful but would you pay for it?
- the feature where the passenger side mirror folds down in reverse to give a view of the kerb is useful; they don't fold automatically when you shut down the car, (I think this can coded) but I found that pressing the lock button on the remote fob for a couple of seconds in fact folds them

Some observations after a week or so in the car:

You can feel the extra weight up front compared to a 520d, steering a little heavier which is a plus in my book. There is some road imperfection feeling on the 19s compared to the 18s (she noticed!! No slagging about princesses and peas please!!).

The Harmon Kardon is obviously better than the pathetic standard speaker set up, but I'm still playing with equaliser settings, I find the base a bit boomy and overall sound a bit bright but hey, I'm not complaining!

And oh, did I forget to mention that lovely feeling of effortless power as the engine revs endlessly compared to the four cylinder. That's what I paid for!!!

Congratulations well worth it going for a straight six why not 535?
I am thinking of going for 2nd hand 535 I am originally from London and now living in the west of Ireland, hence subject to VRT, mind blowing how we pay 530 UK prices for a 520d here.
