Anyone paint the brake backing plate?

Didn't find much on this topic. Has anyone painted the plate behind the rotor? Looking to paint it black. I'm no brake expert but thought I read that this plate has something to do with the ebrake? Any potential downsides? As you can see mine does not look very appealing.

No, it is just to protect the rotor. I just painted mine black a few weeks ago, along with the calipers. Looks a lot cleaner through the wheels.

Painted mine over a year ago, looks much better and no issues.
