I've noticed this too. It's because there is no distinguishment from 520i/d to 530i/d. Grills are chromed, exhausts are twinned. Glad they didn't follow suit on the F30!

The 20d should have a single, big exhaust and black grills. Anything above (straight six club - even though the 25d is now a 4 pot) should have chrome kidneys and twin pipes.

Because of this, more and more people in the UK have de-badged so they can fool people into thinking they have more money to spend than they actually do. However, if your are judging a car and person like this, you will have enough knowledge to know BMW have done this and instead it makes them look like desperate idiots who can't be happy with the fabulous car they have.

Don't be ashamed with your 520d or 525d! They're both great engines in a top car! Maybe you want economy and have loaded the car with spec! I really don't get it! I wouldn't de-badge a 520d - I think the badge looks quite nice personally

Could be worse - there could be a little ///M badge there...

I'm actually looking for a 518d badge so I can out accelerate people using the hidden power of my (badged) 520d.

I think I am fortunate to drive a 535, but if I had a 520, i`m sure i would be just as happy.

Overall, I still think if you own a BMW, you should be happy and proud to drive such a great car, such a pity some choose to drive this brand and so it seems be embarrassed by the engine size...doesn’t make a lot of sense to me....
Since so many keep their badge here(atleast in Stockholm-area), I can say a large majority of the cars are 520d's. (I even saw a 525d once, they have to be the rarest model I think)

It seems the mentality is a bit diffrent in diffrent regions in this regard.

well said, I wish I could add a digital readout on the back that displayed my current fuel efficiency when I blow past them at 260kmh.

Here in Italy most of badged BMWs are company cars whose drivers do not care about engines or models.
99% of 5er's owners debadge their cars (like me). IMO a top car with unique and well known shape does not need a badge whatever model is.

I debagged my one and added the M on delivery, I like the look of it, I simply don't care what other think , considering here in Ireland a 520d due to tax with couple options my one cost me 60K, paid for it cash, with my previous e60 520d I left the badge on even after adding the M package, without adding the M on it, because back then I felt like it. The M package option due to tax comes up to arround 7k euros.

here in Austria most BMWs are debadged - doesn't matter if 520d or 550i - it's funny that the 330s are debadged most times but a lot of 316 and 318 are not

anyway, most E36 have the ///M badge but aren't M3 - that's really cheap

I chose to debadge the car because it's easier to clean, polish. And I don't like to advertise how much money I've spent on it.

60k Euros? Isn't that about £1 and sixpence in real money nowadays?

Easier to clean is a good reason, i like being more low pro, so I put a 318i badge on my M5. It fools everyone.

I wonder why have a badge at all? I have a 520d and 330ix, both are debadged.

Just bought 530d badge to put on my 520d car, so does that now mean my car is acceptable to the materialistic sods bashing their gums because someone with a slightly cheaper to buy model looks very similar to the slightly more expensive model.

I am guessing that the people moaning about de-badging are the same BMW drivers who expect every other driver to leave the outside lane of the motorway free for them, or they will drive right up to you rear bumper with headlights flashing! Get a life.

Here's a thought, if I buy my 520d for cash and someone buys a 530d on finance, who has more money?

I'm sure somewhere in the manual it says that as a BMW driver it is my God given right to do this?

Not found it in my manual, but then again I only drive a 520d. 😄
