BMW Excess Wear & Tear

Looking to leave a 535ix M Sport.

The BMW Excess Wear & Tear = $1,259 + Tax

Did other lease owners get this package as well?
What are some of your thoughts?
Does the dealer have any marke-up on these protection packages?

From my experience if u intend to lease another bmw, those charges could be waived.

Dealer told me there is no markup (and he wouldn't discount). I'm going to skip the coverage. I'm also skipping the tire/wheel coverage on my 19's. My reasoning is the greatest risk of damage in our climate is in the winter and the early spring thaw when potholes are filled with water. For the winter, I'll have 18's on the car sourced from The Tire rack - so I wouldn't have coverage for the 5 months anyway. For the remaining summer months, I think I can stay out of trouble.

Insurance (for me) is always a cost benefit calculation. I have a $5,000 deductible on my home insurance because I insure for catastrophic loss and liability coverage. I'm not making a claim if someone throws a brick through a window. We have a Sea Doo which we insure because I am concerned about liability coverage. It costs $500/year to insure and we use it 2 months of the year, but I can't tolerate the potential liability claim if someone is injured.

With the wheel and tire coverage, I look at my past driving history and tire claims. I've had one flat in 15 years (recently because there is construction in my area). I haven't damaged a wheel since I had my 1999 540iA (curb rash) and I had it fixed by a local wheel refinisher for $150.00.

My wife will drive the car from time to time, so maybe I should reconsider the insurance, but for me alone, I'd take the chance without the insurance resorting to help from Jesus ("touch wood") to help me through.

Excess wear & tear pricing - you do know the price varies dealer to dealer, usually between $1099 - $1299. Dealer can easily discount them if you push them to. Everything has a markup in the purchase, except the freight and taxes. I hope you don't buy into the story your dealer has been telling you.

My dealer sold me my car at invoice plus $500.00 after considering the admin charge and trickle charger (below invoice before that stuff) and had the car freighted from Ontario to my western city at no additional charge. I know they will make $1,000 if they score 10/10 on the RDR and if the dealership makes its sales target they will get a holdback paid, but still, I don't have the heart to beat them up over $200.00. I have to see these guys for service and coffee.

I agree with your remark. Let them make $1K or a bit more and be done.
