Advice needed: M-bumper fitting issues
Hi
Through a modification garage, I recently purchased an OEM M front bumper for my 520D F10. Then the garage installed it for me. When they tried to install the M bumper, the bumper wouldn't fit. There's a bar (reinforcement bar?)that's located behind the old bumper (I attach some pictures), that's in the way. So they removed the bar. Afterwards, the M bumper could fit. I have a few questions: 1.Anyone had this issue? 2.Is it possible to keep the bar in its place (with the M bumper installed)? 3.What's the purpose of the bar? Is it for safety reasons? Is it not-a-good-idea to drive without the bar? Thanks (I also attach an example of the M bumper that I meant. I still don't have pictures of the M bumper on my car) |

Could there be a specific bar for the M Sport that didn't come with your replcement bumper?
I'd be surprised that the bar was only the for standard bumpers. |

The bars that are located in the front bumper are usually crash bars, there to absorb much of a front end impact. Its generally considered more risky to not run these bars, as a front end collision could have more damage.

Thanks for the information
I see on the realoem.com website, the bar is called "mount, bumper, front, lower". From this name, it's possible that the bar's purpose is only to 'hold' the bumper (the purpose is not for safety/shock absorption). Is this correct? If the bar's purpose is indeed only to 'hold' the bumper, I think I'd be okay without it. Because at the moment, my M bumper seems solidly installed even without the bar. Am I wrong to think this way? |

From what I've read on the forums, OEM or Rep, that bar has to be removed for the front mesh part to sit properly. Correct me if I'm wrong. F10's that already come with the M-Sport kit has another bar that's already installed (can't remember the part number)

Thanks for the replies
At the moment the M bumper seems to be installed solidly on to my F10, even without the bar. Should I still get the M-sport bar? (perhaps for safety reasons?) |

A few guys I spoke to said they left the bar out and the bumper sits solid and perfectly. Maybe you don't need that part unless it really bugs you
