2006 Lincoln LS (wife's). As parts are becoming scarce (only about 290K cars produced in 6 model years) I sold my 2006 LS to purchase the 5. Yes, we had two of them at the same time. My daughter drives/owns my old 2000 LS.

How do you find the 850, I am considering going for one, but also considering a E30 chrome version or 2002 tii! With my 635 CSI I am thinking of a complete different car to the straight 6 hence the 850 12 or V8! |

I have had mine for 9 years, and I don't want think about how much I've spent on it, especially when the mod' bug hits you. 1. you need deep pockets to run one of these, and I'm not talking about fuel which typically is 11-17 mpg range, take the maintenance cost of any 6 cylinder BMW and multiply it with two, because everything is doubled up. The suspension is unique, and is normally in a sorry state, parts are expensive, and forget about taking it to a shop, no one knows squat about them, and have probably never seen one. You will be totaly reliant on forums for help, but there is a huge community with some really clever people, and there is not an issue out there that someone will not be able to tell you how to fix. best thing is if you are a bit handy, or know a mechanic. there are some guys making parts and modification parts out there som things can be had to improve it. 2. it is one of the best looking BMW's ever made (in my opinion), it drives great, but at slow speeds it a bit of a handfull, tramlining is terrible and you are constantly correcting it. BUT, once you get past 60-70mph it changes, and it just gets better the faster you go, 100-150mph is effortless and driving along at 120mph with one hand on the steeringwheel is just relaxing, it just does not like to go slow The massive torque means that you can at any time just press the accelerator and it wil go. 3. there are plenty of lemons out there, but the community has a track record on most of the 30.500 cars made. You being in the Ireland/UK area, i would probably look for a late 840i Sport (-97/-99), The V8 is cheaper to maintain than the V12, and typically newer. The V12 came in two versions, 20.000 5.0l (90% 4 speed auto) was made from -90 to -94, 1500 5.4 was made from -93 to 99 (5-speed auto). 8000 V8's from -94 to -99, and 1200 5.6Csi (all 6 speed manual). From -90 to -94 22.000 cars were made, and from -94 to -99 the remaining 8500 cars were made, so newer models are scarse. 4. the community of there cars are great, I have been all over europe in the past 9 years, there is a great no BS forum, and some pages on facebook. this car also attracts a lot of attention on the street. Owners have had thumbs up for other cars, I've been chased on the German autobahn by people who wants a closer look. owners have reported comments like "is this the new BMW" and "nice Lamborghini" So, would I reccommend getting one? If you have the means to fix things that breaks and to maintain such a car. Yes absolutely. If you think this is a low cost car to run and you don't have the finances to maintain it, then no, get a different car. If you are interested do some research, I also have contacts in the UK that can help you out. |
