5 series updated iDrive...

Guys, does the current 5 series have the updated iDrive in it yet? If it does do you know what build date it was available from? Was it April 2012?

By new iDrive I don't mean the touch version, but the latest one with the new red graphics/improved processing speeds etc. and not the one they've been using since 2009.

Yes, as the first video show, the current f10 has the new idrive.
I believe it had limited availability from July 2012, and full availability from Sept 2012.

All f10 built after 07/12 come with the new NBT Pro nav (if ordered from the factory of course!)

Is the new one with the 3D? I have that option in mine but haven't tried it. How would I know if I have this? I should considering I have a 2013 550 ordered from factory.

The most noticeable difference is how the menu selection is highlighted. In the older version the selection is highlighted only by a red border line. In the new version the selection highlight has a both a red border and red gradient fill. (Note the demos above)
The other thing is on the iDrive knob. The older version has a "CD" button while the new version has "Media" button instead.

Ok so I've had the new one in my last 2 cars then, I've just never seen my map look like that first picture. I'm going to have to fuss a bit with the settings to figure that out.

Check out the version of your maps as well. One more thing is about where you live. Not all cities have 3D buildings on google earth or google map.
I checked google map (earth) Denver downtown has 3D buildings.
Go to your car's navigation options and activate 3D, drive through downtown you should get the same effect, if your maps version is 2012+.

Just a small point but the latest cars with the older version have the "media" button.

This, and you also have to zoom in really close in "panoramic view" to 50 meters or less in order to see the 3D buildings.

It actually shows 3D up to 200m zoom then switches to normal perspective view.

I remembered to turn it on but I was outside of the city and then forgot about it when I was back. I will see this in action, if it's the last thing I do.
