Cool NDTV compares the 2011 5-series vs. 2011 E-Class

http://www.tubaah.com/details.php?video_id=142048

Indian network NDTV's The Car and Bike Show undertakes a thorough review of the 2011 5-series against the 2011 Mercedes Benz E-Class. If you've been looking for a comparison of the two market leading mid-sized sedans, this nearly half hour review should be one to catch.

HAHA he didn't know that the 'hump' in the backseat of both cars with the Rear Wheel Drive... he thought they should just 'get rid of it'.

I dont think thats what it meant and I don't think you know what it is either. Its the transmission tunnel, and what he meant was that for a car that is that expensive (an E350 would cost ~$120K), you should not have that hump sticking out, so that 3 passengers could sit comfortably and no one would be given the bitch seat.

Just to put things in perspective 535i in India costs $124,064 for the base model.
There is a 125% tax on imported cars in order to protect the domestic car industry.

The cost of the car in any given country is irrelevant, everyone knows it. What matters is the depth of the review and the insight of the evaluators. I appreciate being able to access the review, but I do not think much of the reviewers. It took them forever to come to a point and much of the talk was fluff.

I actually liked that review, not anything necessarily insightful and obviously there is a cultural difference but I found it refreshing nonetheless. They did mentioned more than once that the owner would most likely be sitting in the back seat and not driving. That made me wonder what I would find important if I wasn't the one driving.

Seen this one on television here. Not one of the best auto reviews but probably the first New 5 series vs E Class comparison atleast on this side of the world.

Drove my Z4 on this road couple of weeks back. Empty 30 miles across the twisty hills, no speed limits. Pure fun. (Amby valley)

If he doesn't like the transmission tunnel, I wonder what he'd make of the X6? (They only have seating for 2 in the back row, right?)

And guys, if you think 125% is bad, I think we along with may be Indonesia (or someone) hold the world record. Import duty on cars is 328%. That's the tax so you add the price of the car on top of that. An F10 M5 here would be well north of 441,000 USD so while shows in the US might take the 535 as a base model, it'd be nigh on unobtainable in certain parts of the world. It's nice to have a review of the lesser machines of the range. Nice find

You are right - I've admired the road in the video and had a wish...

Hey Suvidh, I am from Bombay originally and have heard a lot about Amby Valley. Need to make a trip up there next time round. How do you like the power delivery of the Z4?

520d base vehicle $135k at 212% import duty
535i base vehicle $ 400k at 600% import duty
M5 $1 Million @ 821% Import Dut

so 125% is cheap....

and yeah its not like Bangladesh even has any auto industry to protect. Nor everyone is buying expensive cars all the time....its just stupid.

I thought it was a very good review. I was interested to hear he said the car is assembled in India, I thought all BMWs were assembled in Germany.

Interesting to se how important the backseat and the prestige-at-the-hotel factor is. In Europe at least if you see a mercedes in front of a hotel you think its a taxi
