Sun Protection Glass - Option 761

Just picked up by 520SE and I am unhappy with the window tints. They are hardley tinted at all - you can easilly look through one back window see through the car and out the otherside.

Any one else notice this or has BMW changed the shading?

This option is more to stop UV rather to look gangster. Hard luck: money is gone. But you can always go after market if you want proper privacy glass.

i have the sun protection option and think its, well, what i expected, does the job. however i also bought and fitted the BMW sun blinds in the rear windows as well (10 month old boy riding in the back a lot).

if you fit the sunblinds (black mesh) then these + sun protection really do make the rear windows look dark from the outside. plus the custom fit nature of the sun blinds look very neat IMHO and the fit is such that the rear windows can still be lowered even with the blinds in place.

How much did you pay for the sunblinds?

£110....yes they are without doubt the most expensive (relative to what the must cost to make) option i've ever seen BUT they fit perfectly and look good, much better than the stick on mothercare jobs. BMW definitely have you over the barrel here. I'm guessing the manufacturer of the blinds makes similar systems for other brands as a colleague said he has same thing for his mondeo and ford charged him about £40....obviously the fact they are for BMW means they are more expensive to produce or is it just a case of premium brand = premium price you decide

heres a thread i posted some pics in of them fitted:

Yeah these accessories are expensive. I was tempted by the M Sport gearknob and gaitor but at £130 VAT, thought "no way!".

Luckily I managed to get a virtually new one from a seller on eBay for a more reasonable £60... It's the OEM item and very nice it is too. Livens up my black/black interior.

is it possible to see pics of your car with the tinting option? I need to see whether they really are a waste of £300 .. thanks
