I'm considering getting that same lip... Does it prevent removal of the mesh grills??

I've got a 2014 550i, and I was about to start the process of replacing my grill but I noticed the night vision camera in my car seems to be integrated into the right grill. What do I do in this situation? I never use it and wouldn't mind just removing it, but I have no idea where to start on that.

Love the black contrast against the silver on Tallulah. The instructions on here were a great help.

Great DIY write up. Changed out my stock chrome grills for a flat black M5 double slat style yesterday and this was a big help! Thanks for the effort that went into this. I wish all DIY were this good.

Thumbs up Thank You

Thank you for the walk through, tried pulling it straight out without removing anything but couldn't get them out. Ended up doing it the right way, and everything turned out beautifully.

Add me to the just "Grab really hard and pull" group. It took me all of 1 minute (literally) to pull the old ones out and put the new ones in. You just can't be scared to pull really hard or they won't come out. And now the wheels finally match the grill!

Can you post a picture with the hood open? Include pictures with the gasket on and off.

Thanks! I'm really happy with them. I was a bit worried coming from China, but the gloss fits the car really well.
Got them off ebay from v1motors. We sent back a few offers and I feel like I got them for a great price.

Nice...how is the fitment and can the grills be separated? I'm looking to swap out just the centers as I'm retaining the carbon fiber rings

Fitment is good. Wouldn't call is 100%, but it is very good. Nothing noticeable at a glance (black on black helps), but if you're up there inspecting the gaps, it doesn't quite fit like stock. When looking at the passenger side, it look like the top portion is a tad smaller than it should be. For the ~$45 I paid, I'm very happy. Didn't look to see if I could separate them.

Did the pull method. At first I had tried the pull method but I got halfway and the bottom grill didn't want to come out. Top half was easy. So I got scared and decided to open up the hood, took the seal off as well as the plugs but I didn't have the tool for the screw. The toolset I have didn't have that big of a size so I put everything back and went back to the pull method. Wiggled it for a bit and pulled and easily came out. Left side was even easier to pull. What a difference with the black grill. Thank you for the instructions and tips guys!

Soooo glad I found this thread (and read through the whole thing). I put on oven mitts and did the "pull out" method". Yanking top first, it literally took me 5 minutes to pull both sides off. Yes, scary to know that anyone can do this, but at least I didn't destroy my OEM grills in case someone does think of stealing these... but the new look... sooo much nicer.

Here are some before and after pics.
