Fuel door popping open
This isn't exactly a car audio question but my stereo is the reason why my fuel door pops open. I recently installed a Soundqubed 1200w monoblock amp and Fi BL 10 inch subwoofer in a ported box. I have the sub facing the rear, which I have found to sound the cleanest/loudest. The problem is there is a lot of rattling coming from the fuel door and it eventually pops open. I have done a lot of searching for solutions and the only thing I was able to find is creating a solenoid circuit to wire into the actuator.
I am not electrical savvy enough to solder a circuit board. Has anyone had this problem and what have you done to fix it? Please don't flame me for wanting some bass in my new car.... |

Heres the thing. putting your sub in this way is not ideal as your containing 80% or more of your bass in the trunk and not in your cabin.
I have 2 10w6 JL's with zero rattle and no bass in the trunk. I also don't have trunk flex and as you may have guessed zero issue with the fuel door. The picture is before the subs were mounted in the box but you will get the idea of what I did. Please excuse the poor quality of the photo |

2k,
Your custom enclosure looks great! I see you're also located in Las Vegas. Did you build your box or was it done at a shop? I think I may need a custom box firing the sub and port into the ski tunnel, sealed off from the rest of the trunk. I didn't expect to get so much trunk flexing and rattling from a single 10. I'll post photos of my setup when I get the chance. Last edited by eXhilarat3d; 05-28-2013 at 10:34 PM.. |

Oh man do I have the shop for you. John Webb at Performance Audio. There is nobody better than him anywhere near this city, 2011 installer of the year. I may be willing to part ways with my box also if your interested, send me a PM.
Im thinking about going with a 13w7 in a fourth order. |

So We Basically Are Screwed when going through a car wash
The Car Wash Puts enough pressure on the Door to release it - Water Doesn't get in the tank, but only a matter of time before it just rips the door all the way off - That is just great.

I believe if the car is locked then the fuel door is too and can’t pop open, I may be wrong though. If that’s true, a simple fix would be to just lock the car or set it to lock automatically once you start to drive.
