Having trouble with car wax. I'm using Meguiars

Hey guys I had a question for you hardcore detailers.

The last car I waxed myself was over 12 years ago and my curiosity to try waxing the F10 myself led to a 3 hours hand wash, clay bar, and wax.

One issue I'm finding is that the wax doesn't seem to cure or wipe off completely. I still have residue on there and there are spots that look really black. The car itself is very clean and the gloss and reflections are really great, but on closer inspection you can see that there is some oil or other things left on there that I cant fully wipe off.

Products used from Meguiars:
Car wash soap
Clay bar kit with Quik detailer
Polish
Tech wax 2.0
Applicators, and microfiber towels

I was wondering if anyone else noticed that the wax left a oily residue on their 5er.

The streaking you see is very common with NXT 2.0 and dark cars. Essentially, what you are doing wrong is applying the wax too thick and or unevenly. 2.0 needs to be applied super thin, away from heat and sunlight and evenly. This is best done with a DA (Dual action) polisher and a pad made specifically for applying LSP's (last step products).

Try going over the leftover oily residue with a microfiber and some quick detail.

That usually does it for me when there is leftover wax residue on the vehicle.

Thanks guys I'll give it a try later, will washing the car again help get rid of that wax layer a bit more?

IPA wipe down should help..50/50 (roughly) Isopropyl Alcohol/distilled water solution. Most normal car wash stuff are too gentle and doesn't really remove LSP/sealants.

should work. I would try and make the solution a bit stonger. If that doesn't work, you may have to use the 50/50 IPA or polish again and start over.

I'd be careful using this as a solution, unless you want to redo the waxing you've done. IPA wipe down will strip any wax on the paint. Yes, it will remove the residue, but it can remove all the wax you put on as well.

I'd try quick detailer with a microfiber before trying to spot correct with IPA, unless you want to do an IPA wipe down on the entire car and reapply an entire coat of wax.
