iPhone and Navigation upgrade
Bmw
Hi guys, I just purchased BMW 520D F11 touring from the end of 2010. It's my first BMW and I just love it. I have few questions related to multimedia. I managed to connect my iPhone 5 with Bluetooth and it's working fine. Playing music etc. I would like to know if I can use USB too. When I open the arm rest there is only AUX and some weird connector. See attached photo. Is there any chance to change that connector to USB so I could connect my iPhone? My second question is about the screen unit. I have the small screen version. On eBay, I've seen few guys selling brand new units with wide screen display and sat nav for couple of hundreds of £. Is it worth upgrading? Is this the things I'll get extra if I upgrade to the bigger screen? Sat nav, DVD, larger screen? Thank you very much for helping the beginner. Cheers |

The connector on the left is for the BMW cradle, that you buy to allow your phone to sit in that housing to charge. The screen you are talking about, you have the normal screen in your car, often referred to as the business edition, and the larger screen is the Pro Media upgrade, which then also has a USB with aux point where your aux point is, to stream music to the screen.
I do not think you can stream music without the USB, although you can play it though the AUX connection (headphone socket), controlling it via the ipod, as opposed to with the pro media, where it is done through the idrive wheel. |

OK, I'll buy the iPhone 5 cradle for charging soon. Will think about getting the PRO media upgrade, if it's worth it.
Streaming from iPhone 5 over bluetooth works perfectly. I can even skip songs on the steering wheel It shows the name of the songs on dashboard where the small computer display is under speedometer. I also find out that there is a camera for reversing. That's very handy, especially for my wife . |

Personally I wouldn't bother with the pro nav upgrade . The reversing camera is worth its weight in gold though

No , it's the glovebox in front of the passenger seat. Pull the handle and you should see it to the upper left hand side. youll have to lookup to see it properly. I'm from Ireland to.

At least my Bluetooth audio works very well and the music from my iPhone starts playing automatically few seconds after I turn the car on. Really like that. Also skipping the songs on the steering wheel is really handy. Basically don't have to touch my iPhone once.

Hi, how do you skip to the next song from the steering wheel? I see I have the option to select another song and is displayed on the cluster, but I just want the ability to just hit next. Thanks!

There is a little scrolling wheel right beside volume buttons. When you roll it or push it the menu in the dashboard where the computer is changes to the song name and two arrows - next and back
