Why bother @ 50%?

To each their own. % Darkness is a personal preference ... the important thing is that he gets a good quality film.

Don't the cars come stock at around 85%? If that is true 50% is significantly darker than stock.

35% All the way around minus the windshield. Really sets the car off. Dark Graphite on Dakota Black.

not sure what the percentage of transmissible light is on BMWs ... but all cars are different... yes, you are correct ... 50% tint means less than 50% of light is transmitted due to the factor of the glass itself.

I don't think BMW sedans comes tinted unless it's the rear windows of a X series. When I had the X5, rear privacy glass were optional. The tint percentage means how much light is passed through the glass. So 5% only allows 5% of light passing through, that's how the tint-o-meter works. Cops carry that around here in NYC.

My rear windows has the OEM (euro option) privacy glass, and tinted film on the front side windows.

Euro spec cars get all the good options! I would love to have factory privacy glass cause it's dyed glass rather than a film.

DO NOT Get Suntek Carbon Film ... IT BLOWS

Optical Clarity is non-existent ... This film is so hazy from the inside it is unbearable. Made the mistake of letting my previous installer use this film. Had it removed within the same week & Formula 1 Pinnacle applied ... much better ... clear ... like glass should be!
That's too bad you must have had a bad experience, I use both of those brands I see no difference. Of course I think the installer has a huge impact on the quality of the tints final appearance.

But we do pay top dollar to get these options.

I had a 15% regular tint and it wasn't dark enough for me.. I just had it removed and got a 5% (limo tint) Ceramic Tint all around. It is imperative that you get a ceramic tint because it actually blocks the heat.

Get a 10% all around because 5% makes it hard to see at night (and I have 20/10 vision). DO NOT get a windshield tint unless you don't mind the $100 fine when you get pulled over. I had a 50% windshield tint on my Jeep, and the officer didn't hesitate to ticket me for it. Unless you have an Auto-Immune disorder or Doctor's note you will not be exempt from the ticket. In my opinion ten windshield tint isn't worth it because you can achieve the same effect with a limo tint...
