Satin Grill Slats?
I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I really like the satin slats on the 550i. I absolutely HATE chrome, but the satin gives a darker car more personality up front.
Having said that, I REALLY dislike chrome. So while my M-Sport bumper is being prepared at the shop, I thinking of getting the surrounding chrome portion painted to either black or to match the body color. Has anyone had their chrome surroundings painted to match the body color? Trying to get an idea what it looks like. For anyone wondering, satin is the top one. And the picture at the bottom is what it looks like on my car (not my actual car) |

Ebay has cheap replacements... If you don't want to paint. I got a satin black plastic one that won't chip. It's the same as a 535 in construction only all black.

Huh...never really thought about satin as I was looking for double slats in gloss black. I don't think color match grills would look good chrome just looks too tacky!

I agree on the chrome and definitely wouldn't want to paint the whole grill the same color as the car. I could opt for the cheaper option and get black ones on ebay, but I've had that on my previous 2 BMWs and am getting tired of that look. What I was referring to is just painting the surrounding chrome (not the satin grill slats) in the same color as the car.

I've gone back in forth between going to a black grill or keeping the satin grill on my Alpine White 550i. After seeing many AW 5 series with black grills, I've decided to keep the satin grill. As others have mentioned, I think it gives the car a classy look.

As a couple of the tabs on my Taiwan dual slat grille broke I had to go back to the original grille. I had actually already painted the center section black so I now have the M5 style grille. The chrome surround didn't fit the Taiwanese center section.
