Anyone use sumitomo tires before?
I just ordered my new wheels and tires. The tires I'm getting is Sumitomo htrz iii. Anyone has any experience with this brand? Good or bad?
Thank you |

If you check on TireRack.com you'll find the majority of the reviews are quite positive. It probably won't perform as some of the high $ options, but it's no slouch. I had a set in the past: worked well, lasted long, decent grip, not as quiet as other options.

It will be good at first and wear out pretty fast making it unsafe and noisy. I would stick with Michelin or Continental for the heavier sedans like ours. It's actually going to cost more money running those cheap tires in the long run.

I had them on one car and although they were a decent tire, they wore out in 1/2 the time that any other brand did on the same car, driving under the same conditions. I'll never buy them again, I feel as if I got what I paid for and I'd rather spend a little extra and get longer life and a little better performance.

Go to tirerack and read their survey results. You'll get a lot more data points than asking on this forum.
I had a set on a '79 Mercedes 450SL out in Hawaii. They suited the car pretty well. I thought they were a good value for the money, but we didn't own the car that long after putting them on.

Yea that is summer tires only. But the seller said that we are in CA so we don't have to worry of winter tires...i guess that makes sense

So Jason as u can see these tires are a cheaper brand and are fine but I'd stick with higher quality tires like Michelin's. I use to run these on my Integra back in my racing days and I use to go through them like water. But because they were less expensive which brings me to a point...how much are they charging u for rim and tires cause they could charge u alot for the combo and on their end make money off u buy giving u cheaper tires instead of quality tires?

I check the price, seem like they just add the wheels price and the tires together. Online price at some website for staggered set of sumitomo is around $625+ tax. The wheel set is $1500+tax. So they pretty much just add it up together

Yes you should be fine most of the time in Cali. However, those tires will wear prematurely because the F10 is heavy. Considering the price and performance, it's worth it. You just have to debate whether it's worth the extra labor costs and frequency of swapping tires. Then consider your risk of hydroplaning or whatever safety risks when the temperature drops since the weather is pretty erratic in the past few years.
