I just recently install my Remus exhaust on my 535i xdrive and I am using the 550i rear diffuser to allow the dual exhaust opening.

My problem is the rear exhaust hanger dont line up properly with the 550i rear diffuser opening. I tried adjusting the hanger two different ways and its either too far out or too far in if the hanger is bolted down correctly. Right now, I just have the exhaust hanger tied up so I can center it.

Has anybody else ran into this issue? Did I get the wrong diffuser? any advice?

I know if u use a M5 diffuser the exhaust has to be modified slightly on a 535 but I would think the 535 and 550 should be the same. Pictures would Definitely help if u can take some.

Apologies for the delay.

if you look at the pic, there is about 2 inches between the bolt and the bracket hole. I can mount the bracket in the bolt, but once i do that I cant put the rear diffuser on because the exhaust tips will not line up with the opening.



To go around this problem... right now i have it lined up but the rubber hanger is held on by zip ties onto the body.



again, I have not seen anybody complained about this before so it might just be mine. I bought the exhuast used so the previous seller might not have gave me an additional bracket.

535 and 550 openings line up on center. I know this because I added quad tips to my stock exhaust first, and then my M Performance exhaust, and I am using an OEM M Performance rear diffuser made for a 550. The exhaust outlets line up perfectly. The only reason this should be off is if it was made (or modified) to line up with an M5 diffuser, where the muffler outlets are more centered.

My thoughts are the same. But I dont have an m5 diffuser to test with. If I go with the m5 diffuser that means I have to modify my support bracket and might lose my comfort access in the trunk. Eeerr

Can't you just get the bracket extended by welding on a piece? Any decent shop should be able to do this

Its definitely an option. I wanted to get feedback from others that had this exhaust installed before I make any expense on getting some welding work done.

The case is simple: muffler brackets needs to be adjusted. Let me provide you with my research on that, since building the exhaust is important project and you asked to share install experience.

The upper (car’s) bracket (6) is always on its place and bolted to the car bottom, the lower (muffler’s) bracket should be aligned level to it (see drawing), and together they come into the rubber ring (7). There is no other position to the brackets until they are modded.


These are the brand new Remus mufflers for 535i (see white label). The muffler’s bracket is placed next to the side. The rubber ring when placed will look at the muffler side.



Your picture shows the muffler bracket is placed more towards the tips, so it looks like the M5 narrow type and the split is like two-inch. I would suggest to check the label (if present), because maybe your muffler brackets are not for the 535i.

Now let's have a look at my Supersprint install. As you can see, regardless of type of the rear diffuser, both brackets and the rubber ring must be aligned and sit at the proper place:



Therefore you need to bolt on the car bracket back to its place and adjust the muffler bracket (move or extend it, as already said) by two inches towards the center to fit its proper position.

I don’t think you need to change diffuser if you don’t want the M5-style. However shape and material of the diffuser doesn't affect function of the comfort access to trunk since the sensor is just a capacitive antenna wire.

Just found this link from Alan. Post #11 shows a remus exhaust installed on a 550. i think this is the same issue that i have so maybe an M5 diffuser is the way to go...

the other post ive been reading is by modifying the existing single tip to accommodate the larger dual tip. By cutting it open, are can pretty much guarantee that it will be centered. I chose to keep my single tip diffuser in tact in case i need to revert to stock.

Valbmw, thanks for the input. I will take another stab at it when i get some time. I will mount the bracket on the bolt and figure out the rubber hanger situation from there.

I always wanted the diffuser and exhaust in M5 style, but then realized how many tricks with all these brackets, bolts and different plastic and carbon stuff it will involve. In my case install has been done by a tuning shop in 2 days.

When I bought my Remus exhaust there was a couple of extra brackets included with different layout. Perhaps you didn't get the proper bracket from the previous owner?

By the Looks of it it Looks to be Remus is just a catback system. Is worth upgrading the pipes all the way up to the downpipes?

Remus is an axle back exhaust. Not a catback unfortunately
