I just got my F10 last month so to me this is fairly new. Granted that this model has been out since 2011, I do feel this design is timeless.

I've always tell myself that I bought the best car my money can buy and I would keep this until the wheels fall off but it never really comes true.

With that said, I think with the F10, all those concern I have about outdated design, space and technology has been addressed so I can safely say that I plan to keep this car until the wheels falls off, or until the engine blows up : )

I'm really surprised by the amount of people who modify their lease car and than sell the parts before returning it after a few years! Great for the people looking for cheap parts instead of new but I don't get it?

We have a silly tax too, probably ever worse than yours.
Cars depreciate a lot in the first two years, high end cars (I.e M5) as much as 50%. Because of this you can easily be the 4th owner buying a 2 year old car.
After two years it slows down, a little, so buying a 2 year old car and selling it after two years means you take a much smaller hit than the two first years, and there is still a year warranty left when you sell it (yes we have 5 year warranty in Norway).
If I bought a brand new M5 and kept it for 4 years, I could pay for a new 530 with what I lost.

Now, if you buy a 4 year or older car, you can keep it for years and loose pennies compared to the first 4, but at that point you need to start fixing stuff so that brings the cost up.

That makes two of us, never understood why you would mod a car that was not yours.

Bought my 2011 in 2013 as a CPO. I usually keep cars about 7-8 years so plan on having it for another 5 years or so. I do less than 10k per year so it should still be under 100k when I am ready to move on.

Last few BMWs I've kept 6.5 years a piece, which I've found is a "sweet spot" between getting your money's worth and prior to serious issues kicking-in. I'm not sure, though, how long I'll keep the 550xi. It'll partly depend on how reliable it is - so far so good. It'll also partly depend on what catches my eye next. The next 5 series should be out soon enough (2017 model?), and if it's an improvement, I may trade up sooner than later. Although, the F10 was such a hit for me that I'm finding it unlikely the improvement can be significant enough - we'll see.

I generally keep my cars for around 4 years. Depends a bit on the mileage and faults on the car. Here you can still get descend trade in value < 75k miles but if I am there too early and the car is still good then I will keep on driving.

The only thing that might happen this year is that I will trade it in for a Tesla P85D as in Holland this year there is still a huge tax benefit on the Tesla. In terms if private benefit tax and other subsidies you can drive a Tesla for 320i money.

The chances not, I work with folks from your side, Finland and Denmark and we all agree that at least on your side you see some return on how good your public transport system is and others, in Ireland most of the cash made out of this VRT 2nd tax is invested in other than motoring or transport related areas, so maybe over all we more screwed in this department!

My F10 is by far my favorite ride I've ever had, maybe ridden in, but the N63 CCP and all the fallout from that and issues people are still having doesn't make me feel good.
I plan to get an extended warranty anyway but I dunno. I don't drive very much, only about an 11 mile/day commute, so paying what I do on something that may blow up in the end doesn't make me feel awesome.

I have an CPO 2011 535 xdrive with 51k miles and I plan to keep this car till the wheels fall off. Maybe even pass it down to my kids in the future. I drive around 15k-18k miles a year so it make more sense for me to keep for the long term.

I purchased my cpo 2011 528i msport in dec 2014, normally i keep my cars for a while but this one im not simply because i got and in between engine and can't do much to it. I like to customize all my cars and I simply can't with this one, so since it looks nice I will keep it stock for atleast 6-12mths and get rid of it and finally get my n20 turbo....but stay with the f10 family love the size of the car.

Same here, roughly 30% of car related taxes are going back to roads and traffic.
I just dont understand why a car should cost almost 3 times what it is in Germany.
for what you pay for a fully kitted 525 in Norway, you can buy an M5 in Germany.

Yep pure pain, for 520d with few options as per attachment I had to give over 17k Euros in tax on top of a total of 58,500 Euros for 520d, not cheap! Toyota and Ford offered the government few years back to include ESP and other safety features at half the price what it cost them to fit it as standard to cars if the government stop applying the double tax to safety features, and the suckers declined, so what you have here is manufactures try to lower the entry price by striping cars to bear minimum in order to make the entry price affordable due to both tax applied to every option, to me this amazing when ESP save lives especially when no a single cent is going back to fix the roads and all.

I am from Montreal and London and moved here nearly 10 years ago my other half is Irish, the F10 is my 3rd new car in Ireland, my wife at her 2nd new car, it is crazy amount of cash given away, if I trade in now my 520d F10 for a new one BMW offers a max of 30k for it, in other words a cost of 30k for the last 3 years, hence keeping the car for quite some time and spend any cash on good old classics to keep my enthusiasm for cars a life with a smile in my face!

Why own a depreciating asset? Lease the car, INVEST your money.

Ah, million dollar question.

Initially my intention was to play it safe and go until or close to the end of CPO.
Now when that's about a year away for me, at just over 50K miles, realizing this is just about perfect car for my needs, and the fact that I can't get manual anymore, I'm reconsidering it.

So the answer is, I don't know, right now leaning towards keeping it for a long time.
