Exhaust Cutouts

Anyone opt for electronic cutouts vice muffler/exhaust swap? Seems like a fitting compromise if you want the aggressive sound of straight pipes when needed but also the quiet of OEM cans when you don't. Is there a downside other than the sound is either crazy loud or nothing at all?

If you go with electric cutouts, make sure you go with a company that offers a good long warranty. Most people I know with electric cutouts end up saying they weren't very reliable and have had to replace them. Definitely don't go with the cheapest you can find!

I'm not really considering it because I have an exhaust setup already in mind but came across a video of an F10 535i with exhaust cutouts and the car sounded awesome when the valves were open.

I did muffler and resonator deletes on my E39 540 and it actually sounded better with a Dinan axle back muffler so I will be going that route but I don't know much about the cutouts so that's why I asked.

Since you have a 550, I would go with M5 mufflers. I have them on my 535 and without the vacuum line for the valves it still sounds great. I know the 550's have the vacuum line so when you're cruising around its nice and tame, but when you get on the throttle it sounds amazing. Delete your resonator and throw an X Pipe on there as well. You won't regret it.

I'm actually waiting a reply for M5 Comp mufflers and I've already done the resonator delete.
