X-pipe To Help With Drone?
currently have RPI mufflers on my 550 and im having drone around 1.5-2k rpm. after looking around on the forums some people are saying that replacing the resonator with a x-pipe helps with drone at low RPM's. Does anyone have any a x-pipe set up that can tell me if it will help with the drone issue? thanks and happy new years everybody!

Do you still have the vacuum enabled WOT valve on these mufflers? Or do they delete it? I had the SAME issue with a name brand muffler at same speeds and once I switched to Dinan, which uses valve control on two of the muffler exhaust ports, the drone was greatly reduced at low rpms

X Pipe will help equalize the airflow so yes, in theory, it will help a TAD. Your best bet is a J Pipe. Lookup "J Pipe Drone" and you'll see its success on many different forums including my own car. You'll need to go to a competent exhaust shop that isn't afraid to do some custom piping.

Not to compares bratwurst to cheeseburgers, but when I replaced a damaged H-pipe on my Mustang with a sleek-new X-pipe the drone became almost unbearable. YMMV.

I think that's part of the reason why exhaust setups for our car are so expensive, because of the engineering that goes behind them.

Did you ever figure out what to do with the drone? I'm getting the drone as well in the same RPM range. I already permanently removed the exhaust valves when I had the tips installed. Would partially closing the outside tip possibly remove some of the drone or would it create a whistle sound? Only other thing I can think of is to retrofit the valves I have left from the 550i...

I installed a custom fabbed x pipe last week and it really woke my exhaust up! It has a deeper growl to it now and it helped get rid of drone as well. It has a nice deep exhaust tone in the cabin now instead of that loud exhaust vibration sound that it had before! Will definitely be posting videos soon!

I know, it was connected. There wasn't any noticeable sound improvement with the valves closed, which is 90% of the time. That's the reason why they were removed all together.

I just keep the car in SPORT mode...higher RPMs=No drone!
By manually shifting, I keep the rpms just above 1900 in all gears which eliminates the drone. The engine sounds so much better above 2k rpm anyway

I noticed that, too. Do you still have the valves or did you remove them? Car sounds great over 2K RPMs with no drone.
