BMS N63 Stage 2 installed (2013 550i)

Wow.

I have owned 2 N63's (F02 and current F10) and one N63TU (650i GC, didn't like the car). This 2013 550i combined with Terry's stage 2 is by far the most fun I've had in a BMW. The acceleration feels unlimited and smooth all the way to redline.

I can't wait to dyno this thing to find out real gains, but the fun factor went through the roof. I can barely keep traction in 1st or 2nd with moderate acceleration. Haven't really had a chance to give it a proper go - but the claim of 440+ RWHP does not seem out of proportion. I think I remember the HP number correctly, forgive me if not.

If you're running stage1 (my old F02 was used to help develop it) I highly recommend you harass Terry for stage 2. I remember when I got my old 750Li back from BMW with the stage1 installed, it was very impressive but I knew there had to be more power in the car. Stage 2 was what I was waiting for.

Just so you guys know, I am not paid to endorse BMW products, and I did pay for the tune (although I will not mention pricing in the forum).

Install is a bit different than the stage one because this version ties in with the ECU right under the hood toward the front right side of the car. You have to open the ECU box (just a few torx screws) and replace a few pins with ones from the tune harness. The pins you remove from the harness will clip into more pins coming out from the tune box. All in all installation should take no more than 30 minutes with very basic automotive skills. It's nothing compared to the original JB N54 tune, haha.

I will post dyno info as soon as I have it.

Thanks bb. Since I am running stage 1 beta, how is it different than stage 1 that you guys have been talking about on other threads?

you should 1st search forum but i will tell you... it connects to stage 1 and then a few wires in to ECU.. you need to have stage 1 for stage 2.

You pay BMS for the upgrade box. There will be additional wires, and I believe a new black ecu control box that you swap out. The additional install points are in the factory ecu.

Thanks badblack550xi and scott135i! sound like we need both s1 and s2 boxes installed. Wish we could manage these boxes via bluetooth to android/iphone/laptop rather than via cable to a laptop.

The S1 setup is, a control box, with 2 sets of connectors for each of the 2 tmap sensors.

The S2 setup, I believe is a replacement control box, which connects to the same S1 harness with the 2 sets of TMAP connectors, with additional wires added to the harness for the connection to the factory ECU.

Here is the S1 install: http://www.burgertuning.com/instruct...e1_install.pdf

The requirement to purchase the S2 update is that you must own S1 first. You cannot outright but a S2 (at least at launch).

Thanks a lot for the explanation. It answered my earlier question of what to do with the s1 box once you install the s2.

So do you need to run S1 and S2 at the same time?

No, the S2 is an upgrade to the S1... meaning... take the S1, install some additional components, and you're good.

Here is a brief video...

Looks like a much more tedious install than S1

I wouldn't call it tedious. If you have changed a light switch and aren't blind, it's easy as hell. Just takes 5-10 min more than s1. It's a no brainer.

Terry has 1 or 2 testers out running it, in addition to the shop car. It should be available for purchase upgrade in the next 3-6 weeks is my guess, but no date confirmed yet.

My car needed a DME (long story) unrelated to the tune. So it will be out of service until sometime next week.

Feels like a shame that this tune is sitting around not being used when so many people want it. I will be sure to let terry do whatever testing he needs on my car so he can get this stage 2 to market asap. I only had it for a day and miss it. I have a 2014 650i Gran Coupe for a loaner and it feels slower, less 'punchy' in comparison.
