550's vs M3's ? Straight line comparison...
Just curious for those of you guys with the N63 and N63TU 550s who've ran against any E9X M3's before. On paper the M3 has more power against the N63 but less torque while the 550 has more torque but much higher curb weight. The N63TU 550's have more power and more torque but again with much higher curb weight especially if you are xdrive.
The other night I my chance to compare straight line acceleration with my JB tuned N63TU 550i against a E93 M3 vert at the track and I was shocked at the results. Lets just say while both maintaining steady speed and we punch it.......at the end I was multiple car lengths in front of the M. Given we have such a weight disadvantage i wasn't sure my power advantage would give me the win but it did......by a landslide too. Curious what other 550's have experience with other cars on the road.... Alan

I have the same result. I raced my friend with the current M3; and I only dropped my car, no tunes/power upgrades, and 21" rims (at the time)... and I beat him by a couple cars

twin turbo V8 against a NA V8? Yes 550 does weigh more. 550 does have the advantage of more torque. Not sure if that a fair comparison. I have seen the 550 beat a current M3 E9X. The N63TU is a beast of an engine. S65 lacks a few WHP

Ok I guess I shouldn't be surprised then. This was the vert so it's the heaviest version of the M3 too.
Just makes me love my car even more now Alan

With the JB Stage 1 tune, I pulled on an E92 M3 DCT with at least exhaust and maybe other mods with 1 passenger in my car.

But back on topic... Alan man, you must be loving the transition from 535 to 550 haha. Pretty soon we will be hearing how you had the wifey and kids, yet still pulled on a M3 or even badblack lol. |

lol I try to keep the fun down when the wife and kid is in the car. I still get to enjoy a few semi WOT pulls every now and then though...(wife gives me The look after about 2 seconds). None of that cutting in and out of traffic stuff. I just like to feel the torque of this car and listen to the mechanical sounds of a well engineered motor when its a wide open straight road (ahem track).
Loving the 550i transition. Its just so much faster and better than my 535xi in all areas. The only thing i don't like is filling up the tank EVERY weekend and I only drive on the weekends! Nobody is pulling on Badblack. I don't think anyone will touch his times. AWD launch is serious business at +4psi and race gas. Alan

Ya I didnt realize most of the community have the 535s. Personally I never even looked into a 535. v8 twin turbo just sounded so much more the way to go, im my head at least. Whats the price difference? 10k?
anyways, Alan, im getting a catless downpipe soon, my car goes in to Evolution Raceworks soon. They going to use my car to make there new pipes. Ill let you know how I like it. Also getting the BMS CAN tool (CT). For Check engine light. Then going to get a xpipe/catback too. Soon after. Cant wait. Ill go M3 hunting after. Quote:

The N63 is an absolute monster, and the N63TT is even better. I remember cruising down with my buddy's stock M3, and we let loose for just a little. Even though the GT is a little heavier than the F10, it was tuned (DINAN Stg. 2) at the time, and he was left looking at my taillights
I remember even keeping up with a brand new 2013 Porsche 991 Carrera 4S once, which impressed both me and the Carrera's owner. The only other car I went up against my friend's 600+ hp Jeep Cherokee SRT8 w/ a reworked 4.6L V8 and Meisterchaft exhaust (and many other goodies). I know the Jeep doesn't have good top end, but his car is an animal, yet the GT still inched away from him

Same cars but "Rolling" start from 75mph with 1 mile long straight followed by a couple esses, a hairpin and then a measured stop in a box.
That's the race i'd like to see.
