Replacing and coding injectors
I am having some issues with my N63 engine 550i. Recently, it has started misfiring slightly on cold start and will trip the "drivetrain error" warning. When I read the codes, it is a cyl 5 misfire - injection shut down.
I pulled the spark plugs (dealer was supposed to change ~10k miles ago) but they looked a little worn. What I think is cyl # 5 plug looked normal colour. Am I right in assuming the RHS while looking at the front of the engine is #5 and #1 is front LHS? Interestingly, plug #1 looked more problematic. Was very black. I have changed all the plugs but I don't think it solved the issue. It sounds like an injector issue to me. But is it #5 or #1? If I change injectors, can I just change one? Or do I need to do them all? Do I really need to recode? If so, where can I buy the tool? Thanks in advance |

I can't speak for the n63 as I am still under warranty BUT I did swap out one injector on my n54 and had it coded by a local guy who also coded in different modules in the car (mirror fold, key opening/closing windows, etc).
Replacing the injector wasn't hard when the DIY was followed. I say replace it, drive it around and see if the code/misfire comes back, and then get it coded. Just make sure you write down the number that is on the injector as the coder will need that number to get the injector calibration correct when he codes it to your car.. What I would do out of process of elimination is change your coils and sparks. If it still misfires then most likely a faulty injector. Are you eligible for the n63 Customer Care package? They swap out all the fuel injectors and it applies to n63 cars with or without warranty.. look into that before throwing a bunch of money at your car. Good luck dude.. reference for you: Real oem: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=13_1268 The injector, per piece is $227 on getbmwparts.com Rockauto: https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/mor...nid=471&jpid=1 These injectors go for $122 a piece and come with a 3 year warranty Youtube DIY Video thread on e90post: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=fuel+injector Last edited by Simple5; 08-25-2015 at 11:11 PM.. |

you dont need to replace all if they are the same index. my dealer has had a couple of injectors replaced twice on my engine since the CCP due to drivetrain malfunctions and vibrations. They had to code them every single time

I don't think BMW offered that programme in Australia. My existing injectors are index 07. Does that mean I will need to change all 8, or can I do one bank? |

Can this replacement be done on a 2013 750Li
Hi guys,
I have a 2013 750Li that has a bad injector. I was wondering if any of you know this injector replacement and coding can be performed as a DIY for my car. I believe they are similar engine, so I need to re code the injectors in the computer after replacing them. Thank you, |

The injector replacement is not the same on the V8 as they are in the straight 6. It is much more involved and requires special tools. I did some research on this. Also I would look at the article on FCP Groton about new injectors that have come out for the N63 from BMW but are not readily known by most of the public.
