Help!

On my 535 I have the cold weather package and it comes equipped with the headlamp washers. How does that work? The on board manual isn\'t very helpful

According to my salesman, the activate when you use your windshield squirters and your headlamps are on. So if your headlamps are on, you get both windshield and headlight wash. If they're off, just windshield.

That's correct. Also, the headlamp washers don't activate for EACH windshield wash, even if the lights are on; I think there's a time interval that has to pass before your activating of the windshield squirters will also activate the headlamps washers again; presumably to save liquid.

Though I had no idea this is related to the cold weather package.

If your headlights are on, the headlight washers will spray every 3rd time you spray the windshield starting with the first spray. You can't miss it, if you are standing still, the whole front of the car will get sprayed. I wish this feature had a button to activate rather than automatically. In the summer, the headlights don't need spraying, but at night, if I want to clean the dust from my windshield, I have to turn off the headlights to avoid having the whole front of the car sprayed.

Yep. Especially sucks if you just washed the car.

Your dead right! Somewhat ruins the effect...

Washers are made automatic, probably to ensure that drivers wash dirt off the headlamp covers often enough and not deliberately avoid having the front paintwork splattered with washer foam.

I believe that given time, xenons can cook grime into the surface of the covers, leading to significantly degraded performance. Presumably that's why some countries (if not all?) make washers a legal requirement when xenons are fitted.
