Shopping used, educate me on F10 options
I'm shopping used for a 535 (or maybe 550 if the price is right) with M-sport but don't know what other options I should be looking for and how to tell if cars have them. A few observations and questions:
1- does HUD mean that the car has tech package? Does that include back-up camera? 2- How come even in similar looking m-sport cars there are two different types of seats???? What option is getting ticked that some of these cars have the much nicer looking seats? 3- Is there an upgraded stereo option? If so how can I tell if a car has it? 4- Are there any other "must have" options that I should be looking for in a used F10? I'm very up to speed in the 3 series world but need a bit bigger car. Thanks! |

1. No
2. Nappa/Dakota. Nappa is softer 3. Yes, hifi, premium hifi, and B&O 4. It all depends on what you want but I know that when I trade this thing in 2-3 years I want a 550, m sport, exec pack, and cold weather. Basically what i have now but one model up with newer stuff. Just keep looking for the car that has everything you want in it. I wish I had cameras and other driver assistance doodads but I live perfectly fine without them. |

In regards to #2, the M-sport package does NOT include multi-contour seats as they are an additional option on the 535i. You'll definitely want these! They are standard on the 550i.

How used are you talking about? My 2011 has the M-Sport Package, and when the package was first offered, the MSRP was $6500 ... and it included Dynamic Damper Control, Active Roll Stabilization, Adaptive Drive, Multi-Contour Seats, as well as the now-standard M-Sport package goodies.
Also for 2011 ... the best sound system that you could order was the Premium Hi-Fi System (part of the Premium Package 2) ... which afforded you the rear camera, rear sunshades, PDC, Navigation, SAT Radio & iPod/USB adapter. The Soft-Close doors, Power Tailgate & Comfort Access were also grouped together into a Convenience Package, where in order to get the power tailgate, you had to get the package, and therefore the other 2 options were included. MSRP $70,600 ... OTD $65,500 .. I was pretty happy with my special order at the time. |

I would make sure it has the mid-level audio. It's very good without the expense of the B&O system. When I ordered, they had 3 different seats; standard (not good), multi-contour (very good) and luxury (multi-contour + vented perforated / cooled seats that are "active". We went with the luxury, but the vented seats don't really vent and the "active" part only plays with your butt cheeks while you drive. I would say just stick to the multi-contour. I also like having all the cameras as they help with parking the big car. Nav system on the 5 is way better than the one on my M3.

Bottom line is these packages and options come bundled differently from year to year and even from different markets. Best bet is to pick the must have options (not packages) and find a car with it.
