Aftermarket Wheels - first time for everything!

Hey everyone,

I've always browsed through the forums and even participated here and there and would like some help.

I currently saved up for a set of new wheels and here's my issues. I just purchased a new set of Michelin AS3+ for my square set up and put around 5,000 miles. So buying new tires isn't really an option.

My car is a LCI 550i with Glacier Silver Metallic exterior. I intend to keep the car for a while, my goal of wheels is something simple, but still elegant.

I'm going for gloss black because of the contrast to the paint. The two wheels I'm looking at is the TSW Watkins and Savini BM15. I'm currently leaning towards the Savini because of the thinner spokes.

My options that I want to pursue:
  • (4) - 19 x 8.5 Savini BM15 with old tires and paint calipers BMW blue
  • (2) - 19 x 8.5 and (2) - 19 x 10.5 with two new tires and two old tires

I'd be stuck with two tires still after this and the quote I received for the 10.5 width option is out of my price range. Butler Tire (very reputable aftermarket wheels dealer) said it would cost $346 per new tire (AS3+ 285/35ZR19) when TireRack and Costco say $265 each.

Opinions? Advice?

I personally really really like this TSW Watkins. If I were you, I'd just go with option 1. I personally have a square set up but I'm running spacers to create the staggered setup (10 in the front and 15 in the back). The spacers only costed like $150-200.

Thank you for your input!

The primary thing is I really don't want the feels looking "flat", I'd like there to be SOME concavity.

What keeps you attracted to the Watkins over the BM15?

Well the only way to get the concavity is with wider rims in which case its better to get the 10.5 rear set.

I personally like the thicker spokes on these kind of cars

I've never ran a staggered set up before so how does it affect the tire's life?

You cannot rotate your front and rear tires.

Understandable. But mileage life? I have found different things online like the rears will last half the mileage warranty because of the setup

So, I think I'll be sticking with the square setup of 19 x 8.5. The extra money I save I can maybe get the roof wrapped gloss black and the chrome bits.

Out of curiosity, is there anyway to have a square 19 x 9.5 setup with the 245/40 tires stretch. But obviously the 9.5 won't fit in the front, so can a wheel spacer fix this issue?

Not a fan of cheap cast wheels so I can't say I like either option, but of the 2 I think the TSW Watkins is a cleaner design without the afterthought looking hub area.

I'm at about 10k on my rear 285/30R20 AS3+ and I probably have about 5-6k left in them before they are smoked. That said they are wearing board flat and even. Might as well just go with PSS or PS4 next time if the AS3+ rear treadware isn't any better.... I went with the higher treadware rating AS3+ as 98% of my driving is just highway back and forth.

The TSW wheel is rotary forged, so that would be the deciding factor for me.

You might consider Forgestar as they have a similar looking wheel that you can get built to your specs. That way you won't need the spacers that others have suggested.

Those 19x8.5's you're not going to get any concavity as that will be a flat face wheel.

You will find that the wider rears wear a bit faster on the inside due to the camber....I always end up 3 rear sets to every 2 fronts... makes for weird tire replacement intervals.... which is why I have 2 sets of fronts that are 70% tread life.

I wish I could get forged but with a college student budget, cast is the best I can afford. Parents aren't big into cars so their view is that there's no point of the wheels.

I saw the Forgestar F10D and it didn't grow on me as much.

The thing is, I just got the new tires so buying new tires would be too much. Is it possible if I get 19 x 9.5 for the Front and rear and add a wheel spacer so it can fit in the front?

Well, I guess I'll stick with the square set up. I wish I was looking into wheels before I got the tires for the car.

I think my plan is Savini BM15 over the TSW Watkins. This is because if I get the 19 x 8.5 square set up, the Watkins will look more "plain" in a way while the BM15 has a little bit more to its design. Also, TSW Watkins are out of stock and there's no update in terms of when they will have any available.

EDIT 1:
Here's the idea I have that is ridiculous but I'm curious.
Stretch the 245/40ZR19 tires on the 19 x 9.5 wheels. But since the 9.5 will hit the strut in the front, is there any way a spacer can solve this issue? If this doesn't work, then I'll just stick with the 8.5s.

EDIT2:
So I'm trying to learn everything I can about offset and wheels right now. Let's see if I got this right. If my stock 19 x 8.5 ET33 fit the front. I would need either the two options:

19 x 9.5 ET 20
or
19 x 9.5 ET 35 with a 15mm spacer to fit the front ? If I went this path, then I would get a 20mm spacer for the rear to make it look balanced better?

are you looking from pure aesthetics? with the 19's you won't get that no matter what kind of aftermarket wheel you get. and i really think if it's because you don't want to buy new tires i think it's better just to leave as is. the F10 is a big sedan and with 19's they really look small on the car as is

Have you considered selling your current wheels and tyres as a set and upgrading to 20"? As others have said 20" wheels look so much better on a F10...

I didn't want to go through the hassle but also because I'm thinking about using the 19s on my sister 3 series GT

Well I'm getting wheels because I wanted to make the car more personal and unique for myself. Also, the roads aren't that good at my campus so I thought 19s would be a safer bet. I'm probably going to get 19 x 9.5 ET30 (thanks to remmib) and stretch the 245

Man, here I was wondering on whether I should get new non-RFT tires or window tint for my upcoming 3500 mile round-trip road trip next week. And then to think, do I want to get non-RFT's, or maybe new rims AND non-RFT's.

Fuxking up my budget

I got an almost $400 quote last week for ceramic tint. Went today today and there is a $269 special for the same, at the same place for next week. Local Dobbs Tire quoted me a $1300 or so for A/S 3+ tires with all their normal trimmings.

I mean, I don't have a money tree but I'd love to get rid of these RFT's, but I'd also like a little more Sun comfort on these long road trips.

I can't afford to do all I want, but I am leaning towards the window tint. I think also that it will make the switch from RFT to some really good tires that this car deserves so much more appreciated.

I've done this long road trip before, and the RFT's did OK. Sucked, but OK. But the Sun! Man, got a little brutal here and there.

This particular car makes me want to treat her like a female.

I feel the EXACT same way. I actually went with tint first because privacy and heat. Afterwards, I got a new set of AS3+ and now I saved up for wheels. I guess it's all preference but tint was my #1
